Hi all,

Just posting in the hope that someone's encountered the same problem and has solved it...or everyone's having the same problem and it's just Broken-As-Usual!

I'm currently on the latest Sync 3.4.22251 and trying to update the maps (been able to successfully update them in the past and am currently on F10 - I assume the new maps are F11?). When I insert the USB stick in the car, it shows the "Updating System Software" line, pops up the usual couple of dialog boxes asking if I really want to do it, but then things go weird. It doesn't show the "Updating System Software" line any more (that normally helpfully obscures the top line of the Sync display) and after 90 minutes nothing has happened. If I start the update then set a sat-nav destination, the first time there's an audio prompt I hear nothing other than the music muting...and it never unmutes (adjusting the volume shows that it's stuck at the prompt stage)...and again 90 minutes later nothing seems to have happened. If I remove the USB stick and restart the car everything is back to normal (and still on the old maps!).

Any suggestions very gratefully received!

Cheers,
Gary

Aye the updates are a right pita. Have you managed to update in the past without issue?
I'd wipe the usb key and try extracting the downloaded file again and starting over again.

Yes everything was OK until F11 (apart from the dodgy 8.6GB map update they pushed out last year). Tried F11 first at 3.4.22200, which failed in the same way. Redownloaded after upgrading to 3.4.22251 (the autoinstall.lst file is slightly different even though the download filename is the same - thanks Ford!) and also failed. I guess it's just Ford magic and maybe one day it'll work again, maybe it won't... Roll on F12 :-)

Updated my maps to F11 a couple of weeks ago without any problems. I would suggest a master reset to clear up failed installs and then try again. It takes about 2.5 hours (or it did on mine)

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll give that a try (and plan a very long journey!). Out of interest, can you remember whether or not the "Updating System Software" message stayed on the top line of the Sync display during the install (or disappeared after the dialog boxes like mine did)?

Yes the updating system message did show. It also did a reboot after about an hour and a half (maps) before then doing the voice update and another reboot at the end.

Just in case anyone hits similar problems, sadly the master reset didn't help. Guess I'll wait for F12 and try again!

If you're not already, You could try using the cyanlabs updater to re-load f11 maps?
