Evening all,

Just checked on Ford website and saw there is a map update available. (Sync3, 2017 GT).

Reading the instructions, as you do, it suggests it's going to take 90 mins or longer to update. Again that would suggest a rather large file size.

So, downloaded zip file and unzipped. Once unzipped I get a .tar file of 43kb. Surely that doesn't seem right, I was expecting gb's.

Has anybody done the download and got a different result?

Many thanks

What sync/map version are you on ?
What sync/map version are you trying to upgrade to ?
Where are you downloading the files from ?
How are you doing the upgrade ?

There should be Sync and map upgrade files and they should be several gb in size. A .tar file is a Linux container, there should be files inside it, like if you opened a Windows folder but it still sounds way too small.

Sync version is 3.0.20204 Not sure of map version, maybe F6, will get tomorrow, but both were showing as up to date and no updates available a month or so ago. It says there is no update for Sync but there is one available for maps. I'm downloading from Ford website to hard drive, unzipping to usb. Done this 2 or 3 times over the years and not had a problem. Don't want to put usb in car as I've read the horror stories others have had.

Cheers

Latest Sync version is 3.4.22251 and maps is F11.
Have you tried updating over the wireless ?

Sync version as is, maps version F10 according to car.

I vaguely recall reading somewhere, probably here, that earlier versions of sync can only be updated so far as it depends on the hardware. ie for me to update higher I would have install the unit from a later model. And possibly, you only get 3 years of map updates and have to pay for later versions.

I tend almost to believe this as it's been 2 years or so since the last update from the Ford website.

I swapped my Sync2 for a Sync3 unit, so I get all my updates from CyanLabs and install them the same way, via USB.

Thanks Graham. I'll take a look at the cyanlabs link.

I don't suppose it matters that much, it does what I want it to do. I can always plug the phone in if I need more up to date maps.

Ta very much

I think that is the latest version for your APIM without going down the Cyanlabs route. I don't think F11 maps are available to you on the older hardware yet.

I was wondering this, is it a licensing thing or is there actually a difference in the hardware ?
Different hardware spec.

The newer hardware was fitted from early 2019 part way through MY19 production

It is possible to update to the newer software using Cyanlabs updater but not officially via Ford.
