Switch from X pipe to H pipe -- 3" or 2.5"

I'm debating getting a H-pipe made to replace my X (FRPP catback) to tone down the rasp since adding the SW headers. Would it be better to stay 3" and neck down after the H or before and have a 2.5" H?

Adding an h-pipe won't change the rasp at all. You will need quieter mufflers or add resonators. I went through this with my 2011, with longtubes, catted x-pipe, and Borla S-Type axle backs. Added an h-pipe, still raspy as hell. Added 3" Pypes resonators/mufflers in the overaxle pipes before the Borlas and it made an improvement. There is still rasp though as it's still a very loud exhaust.

So you dont think the type of mid pipe makes that much of a difference on these cars?

They make a difference, but they do not define the characteristic sound of the complete system all by themselves. The actual mufflers are most responsible for the sound, then removing the cats/adding longtubes changes the sound again.

I'll grant I have no experience on this, but virtually everything I have read states the exact opposite; that the X would be raspier than the H and that it contributes greatly to overall sound....

The H will give you a deeper tone. It does matter along with mufflers. The problem is the FRRP are a bit raspy mufflers to begin with.

I know people say the same thing all the time and it bugs the hell out of me. The same people say tunes void your warranty. I've gone back to back x-pipe vs. h-pipe on two completely different exhaust setups, one with factory cats and one with longtubes. Neither time did the x-pipe increase rasp nor the h-pipe reduce it.

Easier proof is check out Lethal's resonator-delete setup, which is available in both x-pipe and h-pipe. They have a video with the stock mufflers, both sound very similar and neither are very raspy. Under load is when rasp really shows itself.


I've got a bunch of videos that I keep forgetting to post up. I'll try to remember today.

Yep a lot of us 11-13 owners used GT500 mufflers or stock mufflers with headers to reduce the overall sound.
