Just got done installing a ford perf xpipe, pp3, and already had the Roush active quads, sound is badass, even in quiet mode it just sounds “right” loud mode is loud yes but it still sounds awesome , so awesome I normally leave it on loud. I say go for it, these are high revving motors anyways, may as well maximize it
Agree. Let it do what it does best.

This may be off topic, but I've always wondered, which pipe provides the best low end accelerating torque?

I ask, because I'd love some more "get up and go", but not necessarily high end HP.
Here you go. I recently installed the Steeda H-pipe on my stock 2018 GT with active exhaust. Same day same dyno pulls before and after install. DA was actually a little higher on the after pulls and car was a little more heat soaked. No noticeable overall gains, but a nice bump in the curve from 2000 up to about 3800 rpm.

I’ve had the H pipe with OE mufflers, ‘16, for awhile now and for the first time I listened to it as I had my son drive away to hear how it sounded as he ran it up to 4-4500 rpms. I was not impressed. From inside the car it sounded good, outside not.

Now it’s definitely time for ether axle backs or cat backs.

I had an H pipe that came with my MBRP catback. Sounded great, but when I installed my catless headers I switched to an X pipe w/2 resonators .I switched to the X as I read it makes a couple more h/p higher in the RPM range. Car sounds great to me which is subjective, but guys always tell me how good my car sounds.

15-17 stock mufflers with a resonator delete X or H is super tinny and gutless.

Now that my mufflers are becoming more open from use, I actually like the H-pipe with OEM mufflers. Not boy racer loud but rather, a more tasteful loud that can fit in well in most situations.

My neighbors actually like the sound of it.

I had the resonator delete h-pipe on my 15 mufflers for a while but it still needed some “oomf”. I found some 2012 GT500 mufflers and welded them in place of the stock pieces. It sounds perfect now.

The Roush AB and X-pipe was too raspy for me. I have to toss in some vibrants to tone things down. I do miss the volume at time, but WOT was just an ugly sound.
I have the same setup. My gf was behind me and said it sounded good but obnoxious to the point she couldn’t hear her radio when I punched it, lol. She still loved it. It is for sure brassy. But no drone though. My Supercharger scream is actually just as loud. Both Together it’s stupid loud.

Roush AB and Steeda X-Pipe here and I love it! (i'm into that kinda thing) It has a nice low rumble at idle and just cruising around but will tear your face off at WOT. :)

Steeda X-Pipe $135 https://www.teambeefcakeracing.com/...MIhYbfgYXd4wIVgpyzCh0vHQnUEAQYASABEgKif_D_BwE
This is the exact setup I had. It really brings out the rasp, although that is exactly what I wanted. But it was just too loud, and yes, tear your face off loud :) . Any load on the engine because obnoxiously loud. I put some dynomax bullets right after the X pipe. I am still not happy. If I could figure out how to keep the rasp but have it quieter, I'd do it.

I can't speak from experience, but I think the X-pipe sounds louder because of the high frequencies. It's probably similar in volume, but the "H" has more bass.

I wanted to add one more thing. If you can handle the volume, except on cold startup, you can have a tuner advance the cold start spark retard to basically get it about the same volume level that the car is when you start it shortly after you drive it.

I briefly looked into putting in an electric cutout, but just using the throttle blade where I was going to drill some holes in the plate, leave it closed at startup and around town, and then open the valve for when I wanted it turned up 'til 11. But, I read about too many cutout failures, valve flappers, etc.

Yeah, the only way I've found to control volume is my right foot...lighter engine loads seem fine but anything over say 50% throttle and it gets loud real quick. No sneaking away quickly and quietly from a stoplight anymore that's for sure. I really like the high RPM deceleration pops/gurgles and the A10 high RPM upshifts though so it's an easy trade off for me.

Good advice on the cold start.

I almost went the cutout route also but like you I didn't want to add another maintenance item to the car.

Putting it into wet\snow mode definitely quiets the Roush AB\X-pipe. Among other things of course.

Brassy is a great description and it seems to fit well with modern muscle IMHO.

YMMV

I have no data on gains from an H pipe, but I do have back to back dyno pulls with the stock exhaust as a before/after installation test with a FRPP X-pipe, and the was ZERO difference in HP, or TQ.

Actually that setup was too tame, so I added some Borla S-type AB's, and that's all I need to make a statement.
