Sorry about your Mustang, I sure it can be easily fixed and wont cause any internal problems. Also about the popping sound I can confirm that my car does it in extremely cold weather. When it sits overnight and I start it up in the morning it pops. I have to turn out of my space when I go to work. The days we had 45 degrees and above it did not pop. I had a feeling that it was the tires because my Camaro also made a popping noise from time to time in the cold.
