This really only applies to those that have upgraded their speakers or used either of these in the past. I am completely changing all of my audio and I have narrowed my subwoofer choices down to two, unless someone throws out one I should consider. My choices are the Hertz Mille Pro MP300 or the Audio Frog GB10. I did consider the JL W6, but it is more expensive and will not fit the set up I am planning space wise. So if you have used either of these subs, let me know your thoughts. I am going for more SQ than SPL.

My system is tuned using a reference microphone. I would encourage you to also consider Rockford Fosgate Power series. You might be able to save a couple hundred bucks over the other brands. I have no complaints about mine and recommend them.

I have a 12” punch with 500 watts driving it. It’s too much for most people to handle.

The JL 12w3 is also a quality sub and half the price of the W6. Their TW3 thin subs also have amazing output in smaller boxes. Check the Xmax of the TW3 or the Hertz MPS300, they tend to match or outperform full size subs.

Those classic brands make some really good speakers these days. Alpine, Kicker, Fosgate. Their Amps are pretty great too. I put an alpine 10" sub in my mustang and I'm very pleased with it. For the wife's SUV I put a Kicker shallow mount and it also sounds great.

I recently had a 12 inch Musway sub installed in a new enclosure where the 8 inch OEM sub was. Sounds ok to me.
The sub is Musway MG series DVC2 with grille. Also a Musway one.1000 mono amp with bass controller and a Musway D8 8 ch amp with 10 ch DSP.

Depends on how much power you want to throw at it and what kind of box you want. There are lots of choices that are more SQ/SPQL for a sealed box. I'd imagine you are probably wanting to use your trunk so sealed is the way to go to preserve space. If you through a real 750-1000 rms at it she will get plenty loud and clean . I have had great luck with the Alpine Type R (older gens), Type X is more musical than the R but a bit heavier , Imagine Dynamic IDQ series are steller and you can put them in a 1cuft sealed box ....really really good sub and not going to break then bank either . I tuned a friends system with a pair of their 10s fed by a NVX 1000 believe it or no and I was in awe with the output and quality of the sound. They were in a new VW golf so that may have played into it as well. Also Look into DD Audio , the 700 series is also really really good at say 500/750ish rms in a small box for either 10/12:. Alot is going to depend on what kind of music you want to listen to, how loud you like to listen to your music and what hz is going to make you go wow that's a tone in a song I haven't heard before. There are soo soo many good subs out there these days ,just feed them good clean power, have good RCAs, proper wiring and cant forget to have the mids and highs to keep up with whatever you choose and the most important is tuning ...spend time tuning it to your liking so spend time going through all the functions of your DSP while playing at a volume you like. If I could pick any sub for my car I'd take an old school Soundstream Exact 10 in a sealed .8cuft and feed her 350-400 rms and call it a day. I had 2 12" Exacts in my 90' Fox running off a SS Ref 700s and 2 sets of OG Mb quart components on a SS REF 604 and a Alpine 9887 headunit and it was soo dialed and perfect to my ears. Played as loud as I wanted and as fast as any song demanded .

I third punch or orion. A pun̈ch p3 12" duel 4 ohm. is a good choice with a punch 500. It bench test at a little over 700 watts and won't over power the mids and highs.
Orion hcca is a good choice. If you get an Orion you want a duel voice coil 2 ohm sub. That way the sub will get close to max power. I had 2 orion reds when I was a teen and won a competition. I think they were the first amp that went to 1/2 ohm. Phoenix gold and punch was the closest to their technology at that time.

Yep, they started the "cheater amp" segment , Orion has always been proper good stuff. I still have a mint set of the OG NT carbon 12" subs in the closet. To add to the list of "good subs" the XTR Pro are killer too

The 2 subs you originally were looking at id say are better options than pretty much everything people are telling you to get here. I own both the Audiofrog drivers and Hertz Mille pro and even the legends. With a good 500rms to either option they are very good sounding drivers and will get you an nice amount of sound in a small sealed alignment. A ported box will open either option up to be louder and depending on if you are running a DSP you can make it play flat still.

The hertz sub is going to be cheaper than the audio frog subwoofer. Putting them both in the same car in the same tuned environment you are going to be hard pressed to hear differences in the 2 of them.

Now things I like about the audio frog . I like the connections on the subwoofer. I like the toggle for wiring load. I like that presentation wise it feels more worth the money you are paying for it. I like the support you can get from Andy (the owner) .

The hertz mille pro great driver and sounds great. but when you see it next to the sub it replaced in the hi energy hx250 for lack of better words it looks cheap but cost more lol. Again though between the 2 you wont go wrong picking one or the other.

cheaper options that are great. someone up mentioned the Image Dyanamics IDQ. thats an awesome driver for the price.
Stereo integrity SQL if you wanna run more power, its a great driver and cost less than the hertz and Audiofrog but takes more power.
Audiomobile evo series subwoofers are also another nice option for what you are looking for.
Arc Audio Black is another option id say to take a gander at.

the MPS drivers have a smaller voice coil , and not enough to really matter but have a very minimal smaller xmax (linear) than the MP drivers of the same line. they carry the same efficiency rating between the 2 while being rated about 20. percent less power wise at 500rms on the MPS instead of 600 rms on the MP.

I install a decent amount of both of these drivers, there are applications that the MPS can be used and give you a great result, but I'll take the full sized driver every single time over it if they both will fit the application.

As far as the Audio Frog DB goes, no doubt its a great sub but the "normal" person isn't able to dial this in to really shine its in own right and if you play it loud to rap and bass with heavy low end influence it will fall short of output vs all the other Mid level SQL drivers I mentioned. Its more of a musical sub if that makes any sense . Great driver yes but I cant help to think there are cheaper subs on the market will put out more controlled low frequencies at a higher db that are cheaper . I have listened to the Audio Frog 10" in a Tacoma and it was really nice and sounded great with Jazz (owners fav) but when he let my play some Mobb Deep then Fear Factory(shock first 35 seconds to test accuracy at speed, Securitron first 1:10 speed and depth) and last some Malicious Mike I liked what I heard but I would have expected more impact of sound but he didn't let me put my mitts on his DSP and yes that would have made a difference. I am not crapping on AF not at all, great driver , but it takes a dang near audiophile to appreciate it not to mention skills behind the dsp to dial it in. Long story short Subs are really subjective since there are many other variables in a driver that need to be in line with the owner expectations. Just feed any of the "good" SQL drives power and run a good DSP and have fun playing with it.

As a first timer myself who doesn't like to waste money but loves music using hires stream and Flac / wave exclusively IMO a DSP is most important ...all the subs sound good also depends on your enclosure. I was using a 10" 300W RMS JL on a 500W @4 ohm XR1000 in sound deadened OE enclosure controlled by Audison BIT 8.9 and sounded amazing could not turn it up past 80% my ears hurt. Had adjustment knob.

The entire balance of the system is everything .... all subs I have listened to independently are a horrible. Matching amp outputs with component specs very important as well.

I just put a $100 MB Quart sub in my bronco OE B&O with enclosure and interior panel sound deadened and it sounds great.....still can't turn it up beyond 85%.

I could blow another 3K on this Bronco using current amps in classifieds for maybe 15% better sound ...not worth it to me.

Standing still VS driving sound are totally different won't notice much difference when driving spend the cash on an adjustment knob instead haha.

I’m installing two MPS 10” into my convertible trunk…space is not something I have a lot of lol

my comment is mainly pertaining to the comment of them being as good or exceeding the regular ones, which they don't in any metric other than slimness.
