Apologies in advance because I know there are a ton of threads on tires but I wanted to just ask a basic Q and hopefully shortcut hundreds of pages of reading…

… it may just be me but the the stock tires (on stock wheels) look undersized and a bit stretched.

I’m currently ‘pledged’ on Apex Racing’s group buy for their new forged sprint like wheels. Planned to go with 19 x 11” square and rotatable setup. Started thinking about tires and as I look at what’s on my current 11” rears… I’m left feeling a little meh…

Can we comfortably run 315s on the 11” width wheels?

GT500's run 20x11 squared with 305/30/20 on the front and 315/30/20 on the rear. You'll be fine mounting a 315 on an 11 inch wheel, dunno about clearance up front tho if you're gonna run squared.

Which tire? All 315's are not the same size.

What svttim said. A 315 yok still looks too big on a 12" rim, but my 315 660's fit perfect on my 11" rim.

I am on the same Apex deal. Planning on true square set up so I can rotate tires. Wish there was an 18" rim that would fit our cars, but oh well.

Haven’t got that far yet. Just getting thoughts organized. Likely need some new tires on the stock set up before the Apex come in too

Look at the tire specs. My suggestion is to stick with section widths that are within 1/2” of the wheel width for the best combination of grip and responsiveness.

One reason the michellins look stretched is they have a pretty big chunk of rim protector on the outside sidewall. 305 is square shouldered to an 11” wheel.

The RT660 315 mentioned is slightly pinched on an 11 (its bead sits wider than that when unmounted) but yeah it squeezes onto an 11 just fine and only looses a little of it’s normal width. A 315 on an 11, compared to a 305 is probably only 2/3rd cm wider. Its not that much help.

My only two choices would be:
Pilot Cup 2

Goodyear Supercar 3R

As the others have said, not all tires are created equally and in fact the 305 in 3R is the same length as the Pilot Cup 2 in 315s.

I can also confirm that the Pilot 4S on a 325 stock GT350 11" wheel can fit and tracks well at -1.8 camber.

If memory serves, that particular Cup2 is the 350R-spec tire, right? I ask because it’s also not always considered that there are compound and even construction differences within a particular tire model. They’re rarely publicized and often go unnoticed by consumers.

I know exactly what you are talking about. At least from what I can also tell DT and Tire Rack no longer carries the FP spec of the Pilot Cup 2 tires at least in 30s.

The screenshot above is now the general Pilot Cup 2 tires for any platform. You are correct tho and the screenshot above already shows it starts with 6/32s while the NO spec which are bespoke to a few Porsche models is what I actually run which starts out at 7/32s. In terms of grip, I'm not Billy J or Montoya so the NO spec has worked fine for me on track.

For my next track tires I’m crossing between the NO-spec Cup2’s in a 305/30/19 or the new Continental ExtremeContact Force in 315/30/19 on 19x11 wheels. The specs are pretty close. The Cup’s 2 are a known commodity, but I’m intrigued by the Conti’s. Decisions, decisions.

The tire on the left is a 315/30/20 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on an 11" rim.

The tire on the left is the optimal size in that offering. 11.2” tread width on an 11” wheel.

Yep, the tire on the right is a 295/30/20 on a 20x10. Also optimal.

The FP was a 35 profile for the 19/20 base 350's. The R tire was a 30 profile.
