the jeep has total crap for brakes to begin with and stopping distances to match. I'm more surprised you were able to stop since race pads in the cold aren't known for actually working.

They don't--Maybe it's the titanium shims if it's not the fixed calipers?

I've daily'd R18/R12 in 3 generations of Miatas and an E90 chassis where they all made a racket.

I've now run them in two separate S550's with PP1 Brembos including my current 100mi/day commuter. They noise is much more tolerable--more like subtle grind than a squeal.

This thesis on why not race pads is a bit of a head scratcher.

I would say the real safety concern with race pads on the street is there's not much modulation when ice cold. They're more of an on/off switch.

At least with GLOCs if you drive carefully for the first few miles they seem to wake up and become tolerable.
