Italians eat a lot of tomato sauce and garlic. They contribute to acidic sweat. I have a buddy that's Sicilian and he can't have wood grips on his guns because they discolor right away. Also, he owns stainless guns exclusively because they rust regardless of anything he does.
His Beemer steering wheel dis colored within two months of buying it. He always drives one handed with his hand at 10oclock and that's right where his wheel dis colored.
Gotcha didn't think about it. Well I clean my hands before driving my car. I'm so scared to dirty my car. I haven't even taken off the factory sticker attached to the glove box cause it gives the car a new car feeling lol

My wheel already started peeing at the '9' where my palm and thumb rest. It's already lost its matte sheen. I'm surprised at how quickly it's wearing down.

Eight months and 11.5k miles.
Mine is at the 1 o'clock

I have around 3700 miles, and my steering wheel started peeling at the 7-8 o'clock position and ford denied it as a warranty issue. I clean it regularly with chemical guys APC ( diluted to 1/20 part if it matters). And no I do not pick at or sweat excessively on the wheel. I wonder if any others have started to see early fading.

The cheap fake leather on these wheels are very soft and its actually junk. They wont last long I could tell that when I first touched the wheel. Im Italian and eat tons of garlic etc....I destroy watch bands and anything like that so yea I can confirm diet plays a role in sweat.

could this be from a wedding ring?
Possibly, once the ring goes on it usually leads to denial, didn't know that extended to the dealership though. Listen if you want my advice, (trust me you don't) get a girlfriend with a nice car, let her look at your mustang but never touch. If she tries ,just yell "NO TOUCH!" and that should work. Then go to another dealer that has a clue.

Looks like it is at the 7:00 position with the wheel straight? Are you hitting the wheel with your legs when you get in the car?

So I went to sit in my car and yes. Because of the bolstering on the Recaro seats I have to push my leg in further which touches the steering wheel as I get in :frusty: Guess that may have lead to it. I thought it was just from my hand occasionally resting at that 7 position.

I wear gloves when driving now. On my last Mustang, I had wear marks on the 9 and 3 postions. It was shiny and smoothed down. The oil from your skin can affect the leather. I also use Zaino leather treatment once a month. My car sits out daily, so I also have a Covercraft sun shade. After about 10 months, still seems ok.

I also try to not brush the steering wheel with my leg.
