Hi,

Can the Steeda IRS braces be seen under normal circumstances i.e. someone following you / walking back to the car and seeing it from a distance etc or do you have to be down under the car or at least on your hands and knees to see them ?

I’m going to be getting some soon and after seeing a few of them corroded, I’m considering a pro powder coat job before installation. If they can be seen I may consider a colour change whilst they are being coated :like:

Any info and comments etc appreciated :like:

If you know what you're looking for, they can be slightly visible from the side.

Virtually impossible to see on a lowered car. Next to impossible standard height PP1 car.

I can’t see the braces on my car without getting down on my hands and knees. Great mod to do though.

I know you want to paint them lime green. Do it, do it, do it!

You can see part of the brace when you look at the gap between the rear wheel and inner fender.
There is also a visible tab on the front of the mount just forward of the rear wheel. looks like a perfect spot to use a scissor jack.

Thanks all :like:

@StangTime - Actually it was red ... I like red on car suspension components and it sounds like it will only be noticeable for those that really know what they are looking at. I’ve still got red 5.0 dots and Brembo logos too :like:

@Chef jpd - That's a great description thanks. Let’s see what condition they are in when they arrive and I will then make the decision to strip / dress / recoat etc if required :like:

I’ve seen some pictures where the braces have not aged well in damp environments. Typical signs of thin lining and voids in difficult to coat areas etc.

We recommend wiping them with a rag soaked in WD-40 before, and a couple of times during the winter to protect them from road salt.

Going your route is also good :) - parts under the car take abuse & when chips open up the power coating to road salt ... anything can happen.

You can definitely see the flange of the rear braces from the side in a contrasting color. That's why I asked Steeda for a black pair, and they obliged :). I had to wait a few weeks, but it was worth it. For some reason, they do the front braces in black, but the rear ones in light gray. I'm sure they'd make them black for you too, if you ask nicely. Ha ha.

Next to that ugly light grey color (which makes them visible from the side) the standard coating on these things is absolutely sub par as they already show surface corrosion after one flake of snow. Steeda really needs to address this as it is a real blemish on an an otherwise great product. OEM parts have a far superior finish.

I really don't get how they choose their coloring of suspension parts anyway. Black, blue, grey, silver, I have them all.

Hello,

Please contact me with your order number and date of purchase -we would like to look into this for you.

We have sold 1000s of these braces and the characteristics you are explaining are not normal.
Thank you,

I would definitely recommend doing as TJ stated above with WD40, or just re-coat them yourself.

Seeing how many of them corrode, there is definitely some room for improvement there. I think they know that, as evidenced by asking a customer to wipe the product with a rag soaked in a rust inhibitor lol......

It's simply a matter of using a thicker powder coating. Go too thin and the moisture can penetrate down to the metal. Couple repeated exposure to rock chips, moisture, and a few salt/brine drives on a daily driven car, rust is guaranteed. They really need to paint them with a more resilient coating.

Anything that is under the car is subject to getting chipped by stones and road debris.

No matter the thickness of the powder coating, chips will happen. WD-40 is a great way to protect anything of value on the bottom of the car from whatever snow melting chemicals they are using on the roads in the north.

With as many units we have on the road - this isn't a widespread issue that our clients are contacting us about.

Thank you.

Best Regards,

TJ

It's always something/someone else. Typical.

Funny how you never really see threads upon threads and posts on FB upon posts on FB about other brands corroding. But yeah, it's not your issue. I am sure the excuse for that is "we sell more than ten times the amount than all the others combined, percentages bro!"
