well no crap it's going to rise sitting still, there is no air being pushed to it. doesn't matter if it's sealed 100% or not. it's going to rise.
It absolutely does. If the only source of air is from outside (sealed) then it will be (and is) significantly cooler than if the source is from the open top of the intake inside the engine bay.

Just look at temps from the OEM sealed intake vs ANY any of the open tops that don't seal.

because plastic and metal don't get hot in a engine bay either right regardless if it's sealed? when it's hot outside somehow magical cold air only gets in the intake box? whatever, not going to argue with you over it. like i said do whatever you want to do.

these are short ram intakes(yet somehow get called CAI's) they will get hot no matter what, they're not cold air intakes. you want cold air, drop the filter down behind the bumper at the ground but it will hardly make a difference. that has been disputed over the internet since the dawn of the internet and plenty of mythbusting videos.

I replied before your edits:

i also don't let my car idle sitting there for 10mins burning gas either.
You don't race or you would understand the significance.

i just think whole thing as a non issue and that's me, but if yall prefer it completely 100% sealed, then go for it lol or put factory back on or buy an airaid or make sure complete closure like someone was doing.
It is a non issue for you an quite possibly most others. That said, there are exceptions where some of us would like to see the potential performance benefits of the Steeda intake in a sealed environment. If that means fabricating it ourselves, fine. I've ordered a sheet of PVC to attempt the same as Stang Racer. Just because you don't see a benefit doesn't meant there isn't one for others.

Iam with ya Stoli. Would like to see what difference if any. I like the idea of the box totally sealed. Post your pics when done. Stang Racer's looks great. Iam actually getting to mine right now. Been getting over being sick so the heater is on in the garage getting it warm so I can attack the install.

Where there isn't a seal with the hood on the Steeda intake the air temps are lower as is the volume of air being sucked in.

How did you guys put the foam or plastic on the right side of the intake? As seen in the picture, mine is also under that piece of metal!

That's how it's intended to be.

I'm with Khyber, I don't race my Mustang so whatever heat is happening at idle is of little concern to me. If this is a concern for others, then perhaps they should shop something else that meets their needs instead of griping about a design from one manufacturer. That's the benefit of capitalism...choices. If a product you have doesn't meet your needs, modify it or buy something else, it really is that simple. But there's no need to tell others that their opinion of a product they have is wrong because you don't like it's design.

I think most of us have commended Steeda on their overall design. That doesn't mean we think it's perfect and there isn't room for improvement to better suit our uses. So that's exactly what we are doing - modifying it and in the process explaining why.

Stoli, I wasn't directing my post towards you...but there have been other's who've tried to trash this thread because they don't like Steeda's product.

I like Steeda's products and the CAI. Just installed today (PITA) to get all lined up as good as possible. lol. Anyway first drive impression is holy shit! :D Really woke it up. Response is right now. Wonder what a more aggressive tune (Lund) would do to it.

I wonder that too but I also wonder if I would ever feel a difference other than looking at numbers on paper. steeda was just hundreds cheaper at the time over going with steeda+lund so steeda got the money, doing just fine too.

Agreed with Khyber. I was considering trying a Lund tune when they were half off but figured wouldn't even feel a few hp anyways. Someone on another thread is supposed to do a dyno soon between the two
