Metal in the filter = time for a new engine. I would want everything that the debris could pass through including heads and cooler to be replaced to ward off future issues. Doesn't really matter where the debris is coming from at this point.Just heard back from the dealer after 3 days with no information. They've checked a number of things and were initially thinking it was bad lifters but have now determined it's something else. They pulled the oil filter off and found a good amount of metal shavings so the next step is to pull the oil pan. Unfortunately, according to Ford, this requires removal of the engine.
At this point I'm past my knowledge of engines and what could cause the issues I've been having but doesn't sound good. Especially unhappy that they're having to remove the engine because of the time/labor/and room for error during reinstallation.
Anyone with any mechanical knowledge able to provide a hypothesis? Dealer is thinking a new short block might be in order, but I've got no idea what that means in terms of difficulty/further issues..
