Just heard back from the dealer after 3 days with no information. They've checked a number of things and were initially thinking it was bad lifters but have now determined it's something else. They pulled the oil filter off and found a good amount of metal shavings so the next step is to pull the oil pan. Unfortunately, according to Ford, this requires removal of the engine.

At this point I'm past my knowledge of engines and what could cause the issues I've been having but doesn't sound good. Especially unhappy that they're having to remove the engine because of the time/labor/and room for error during reinstallation.

Anyone with any mechanical knowledge able to provide a hypothesis? Dealer is thinking a new short block might be in order, but I've got no idea what that means in terms of difficulty/further issues..
Metal in the filter = time for a new engine. I would want everything that the debris could pass through including heads and cooler to be replaced to ward off future issues. Doesn't really matter where the debris is coming from at this point.

Well that's great news if it's the case (sarcasm). I haven't even had this car a year and it's been in the shop for almost two months.

Stopped by the dealer yesterday and spoke with the foreman. He's been on the phone with Ford trying to figure out what to do next and the end result of their conversation was a new engine. They're pretty confident it was a bearing but just need to determine which one, once the source of the metal shavings is determined they're going to put in the order for the new engine.

This sucks. I never once thought that I would be going down this road with a car I was in love with so much. I've had cars that I didn't care about or drove hard because I had no intention to keep them for a long period of time. With this Shelby though, I've done everything I could to make sure it was maintained and treated correctly and for it all to end up with a litany of issues culminating to a new engine.. I'm at a loss for words.

I've contacted Ford and waiting to see what they say about my situation. I wish we had Ford reps still on the forums, because that could really help right about now.
