I have VERY hard water here that destroyed my two previous cars (no matter what I did). I wasn't going to let that happen to my mustang.

I went with this Deionizer for ~$100: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H8MQTMD?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details

It works _perfectly_. Not a single spot.

I also like that the resin is color changing - so you can see when you need to change it. I got ~10 car _rinses_ out of one canister (there are two attached - but it basically uses the first one first).

Finally: the refills are only $30... and it refills two canisters: https://www.amazon.com/AQUATICLIFE-...4&sr=1-1-49946e88-733b-44df-869b-c05699555c56

So - if you're looking for a cheaper solution I can _highly_ recommend that one.
Thanks I’ve just ordered this, I’ll give it a try and report back.

Nice setup. I’m in Newark too, I’ll keep an eye out for that Shelby.
Thanks, If you see me out there say Hi. May be out today.

Can I get the same results if I wash the car without using this system, but then rinse the car using it? Wouldn't this make the filters last twice as long if you only use it to rinse?

That's what I do and for the same reason. Wash as usual and then final rinse with the deionized water.

That’s the recommended method. No need to use the DI for washing as long as you don’t let the water or suds dry.

The spot free drying has me a bit confused and intrigued. I have an RO/DI system I use for making pure aquarium water. I have to boost my household water pressure from 30 psi to 65 psi and all I get out is a trickle of pure water (a large percentage dumps out as waste water). It takes hours to fill a 35 gallon barrel.

How much input pressure is needed to run these units and how much output do you get (GPM?)?

More importantly, is the water legit pure so that I could use it for aquarium use?

(Admittedly, I have done zero research about this...perhaps this is all common knowledge.)

I just spent some time reading up on this unit. It is supplied with a pressure regulated tip fo rinsing. It gives you 0.75 gpm for rinsing.

I think this is perfect for someone like me who isn't massively invested in a top of the line system. It should work just fine for what I need it to do. I'll plumb this inside my garage with a diverter valve that I just turn when I want to rinse. I'll get a coiled small diameter water hose to stretch out to the driveway when I rinse the car.

I also should have read the description first, as it's clearly listed to use this for rinses only. I have zero experience with any type of water filter, but this seems easy enough.

I have an RO system for the drinking water on counter and fridge. It uses a small pump to boost pressure so I understand the slow fill rate.
The Di tank set up uses water from the house water softener. Hardness about 190 and is 0 on outlet of DI tank. Our water pressure is 80 psi. I use a pressure washer spray gun and nozzle to keep flow at about 1 gal a minute with just house pressure which seems to work well so far. Hope this helps.

That's input pressure, not output. Even at .75 GPM that would be quite weak to rinse off a car with.

You are right, I stand erected.

IIR, CR Spotless says their unit will use up to 3gpm. But, I crank the output pressure of my PW way down to 600psi which is less than half full pressure so I figure I'm rinsing only with with about 1.5 gpm. All you need to do is replace the last rinse water with the DI water to remove any remnants of non-DI water. You don't want to use DI to rinse the soap off, is what I mean. That's wasteful with regard to the resin in the carts. Takes me I'd guess five minutes to do the final DI rinse.

That is approximately 7.5 gallons of resin life used out of the three hundred they advertise. Figure thirty-five rinses at least before having to replace the resin.

Not to talk down to anyone but the reduction in flow is to allow the resin to do its job. Increase the flow and the less time it has to remove ions. And you don’t need a lot of flow to rinse a car. I prefer a full flow without a spray pattern as it allows me to sheet the water off the surface.

I just got my cr set up and the left canister is leaking like crazy, right one is fine. For the life of my can’t get it any tighter, could there be another reason for the leak?

Yeah, you overtightened it.
