I tried Sport mode once, maybe because it was the first time, but it seemed 'sluggish' to me (city driving). The car is fantastic in normal mode.

What are thoughts, tips etc. on sport mode driving. When / how to use it?

Thanks.

I use 93-94 octane and it's very snappy. I use it when top is down, low speed urban driving when need RPM to be higher and hold heard to eliminate exhaust drone and other times when need to hold a gear.

Assuming a 10r80?

Can’t speak for the ecoboost (have a GT), but if the trans programming is anything like mine was before we wengerd tuned it, you’ll need to drive harder and faster (speeding up and slowing down) to really see the differences.

I don’t love how ford tuned the 10r80 trans in the S550, but I will say that in sport, it behaves much more as expected when driven more spiritedly. The low speed sport mode experience was one of the big benefits of the trans tune.

I found Sport mode on my Ecoboost made the throttle too touchy and made me buck and kick some shifts like I was an inexperienced kid again. Beyond the first week or two of playing with the car, I never used it again. Different experience for AT folks I'm sure with the shift program change but with MT it does nothing more than go WOT sooner which I can gladly do with my foot.

I have an auto. I generally put the shifter in S (as opposed toggling sport mode) around town. I find D just upshifts to many gears for my liking, and it lugs the engine. Not good for a NA engine, never mind a turbo. I also use it entering the highway in town until I’m settled into the traffic, then shift to D for “economy”. It does give better throttle response no holds the gears longer and to a higher RPM. You do have to give it the spurs a bit to see the difference. If you’re using light throttle I’d agree that you probably won’t notice much difference.

When I had my automatic eco, I did like Johnny above me and used S mode in town and D mode on the freeway. I thought the S throttle was too touchy for freeway use unless passing.

Mine has a stick, and most of my driving is in the city in traffic, so no, not really. Ford's traction control lets you get a little wheelspin already in normal. Whenever I can get on a country road without a bunch of traffic, then I have a little fun, but since there isn't an automatic with shift modes (as one of the earlier posters said) it mostly makes the throttle touchy and hard to drive smoothly.
