Turns out I am dumber than I thought. I wanted to spin the wheels but I only pressed the traction control button briefly (not 9 seconds), I pulled the manual brake, and I slowly slipped the clutch to the friction point while revving up. After a few seconds smoke started to build and I was confused as the wheels didn’t spin.

Really dumb, I should have first asked someone or read how to do this (I later figured out btw).

But anyhow - to the clutch: it really stank in the car for 45 min. It also felt softer at first, and a bit wobbly when shifting from first to second gear. I let it cool off, and it seems ok again. My car only has 6000 miles.
- question 1: do you think I damaged the clutch?

I heard that I should try flooring the car in 3rd gear at 2000 rpm to check for slippage. I did that, what happens when I floor it is very briefly (less than half a second) the rpm oscillate and then pick up equally with the speed.
- question 2: is this slippage?

my guarantee ends shortly. I could buy a non Ford guarantee extension for 3 years for 2500 USD.
- question 3: would you do that, assuming I don’t do stupid shyte like what I described any more? The Mach 1 seems well built!

- question 4: if my clutch is futsch (word play, futsch means broken in German), how much does a repair cost?

No more questions for now!
I did get the wheels spinning once I read how to do it in ChatGPT. I know, I am a loser :-). Still appreciate your thoughts on the questions above.

I had a super fun day again with my Mach 1 despite my idiocy.

cheers all

If you glazed the clutch, going full throttle at low RPM would cause the engine to race away from the RPM you would expect for the speed. As long as you aren't doing that, then you should be fine although you really wore that poor thing badly all for a misinformed stunt. I suggest driving normally from here out ignoring what you may see on TikTok to fully enjoy your car. Don't worry about the aftermarket warranty extension, it would not cover a clutch anyway as that is a consumable.

It’s not good. You likely added tens of thousands of miles of wear in a single go. It is relatively brand new car, so you may be ok. Instead of needing a new clutch at 80k miles, you may need one at 40k miles. Hopefully.

You will know. A slipping clutch will become obvious. At least it’s just a clutch. They are meant to be replaced. It’s just the longevity that is the variable.

I will never ever forget the video of that one idiot in the yellow corvette who tries to do a burnout and melts his clutch on the spot. He also confused dying clutch for smoking tires.

Pretty rookie move. I assume you are young so that’s part of the game. I blew up an integra swapped civic hatchback at the drag strip in my late teens in front of hundreds of people. Blew out oil and engine shards all over the track and shut the track down for a half hour.

Not as embarrassing as roasting my clutch to death trying to do a burnout, but still pretty damn humiliating. We live and learn.

A good story to read.
Nah, not young, nearly half a century. Just never really grew up with a manual gear box and am now going through a growing up phase - car wise - with my children. As long as they don’t know what I post here… lol

Better late than never. It’s getting increasingly difficult to even find cars with manuals.

Man don't even sweat it, you wore it down a little but learned a good lesson. Clutches are meant to be replaced eventually anyways. Visit the ring since you're in the country. Take some lessons. Keep lighting them tires up and enjoying that V8 power. No one gets to be a great manual driver without making mistakes. Keep at it until you're a genuine steel belted gear jammin rig jockey.

I definitely recommend you avoid learning on public roads haha

That’s the way it ought to be. Long live the V8, for every generation.

I will give mine to my daughters only once they learned on that Corolla mentioned before :cwl:
Haha! I was only poking fun.
Paddles gave some great advice about visiting the ring
