Nope, that car looks great, stripes would cheapen the clean look, especially with that color combo.

Side stripes on a Shelby would cheapen the look? I’m sure that’s exactly how Carroll felt when he put them on the original cars back in the 60’s. My opinion is it needs stripes or it doesn’t exude the heritage of a Shelby Mustang. To each their own.

2020 Shelby GT500 ........Past Shelby’s 2019 GT350R, 2009 GT500 KR, 1970 GT500 ,1969 GT350 ,1966 GT350.
You can see my vote also. keep it clean and yes there is a lot going on why clutter it up. Plus it kind of looks like it’s little cousin the 350 with the over the top stripes. Side stripes belong on the 350 IMO. Not so much on the 500.

Why Ford charges $10K for painted stripes is beyond me. My motorhome has full body paint and that cost $10K extra but it’s also a hell of a lot more work and paint. 4 colors and a ton of clear coat. Also 35’ long and height 11.5’

I was going purely on aesthetics, not considering heritage or original design. Did not mean to offend you. And no offense to Carroll. :like:

But the fact is that car is perfect, and the stripes do nothing but clutter it. I think they look fine on the blue/white combo the other guy posted, but for this guys setup, it wouldn't work.

Not offended, just sharing my opinion. I grew up with two original GT350s in the family. I’d have to say for me these cars definitely stir an emotional response. Other cars are cool but..... just not the same. You like no stripes that’s cool, I get the clean look. But for me it’s simply not a Shelby without the stripes. My 2020 GT350 did not have them but I only owned it for two months. Had I owned it longer, it would’ve got them for sure. My GT500 has them and yes the car looks good without them, but I would not have it any other way.

Be glad you have a choice....

Heritage-wise, as with the '60s cars, rocker stripes were mandatory whereas the OTT stripes were not. My '07 GT500 had the rocker stripes only and I preferred it. I ended up with a nick in one of my rocker stripes and almost pulled them off too, but never did.

I'm torn on these new GT500s, they look so damn clean without them, but.....

My replacement stripes arrived today. Hopefully I won't need them when the pull the xpel off my door, but I'll have them just in case.

If I don't need them, I'll either try to return them or put them up in the classifieds for sale.

Under, but there are pros and cons either way.

Under.... the stripes are semi permanent. It would be a costly decision to want to remove the stripes after xpel is applied over them. Also, a very fine edge can be seen where the stripe meets the xpel. I keep pressing down on it to remove the void, but it keeps rising again.

Over......... you can change your mind, tear them off, and they are easy to install again if you nick them or change your mind.
Every wrap place told me over as under would cause bubbles and raised up stripes. no brainer.

I stayed on top of mine. Kept pressing down on the seams. The gap is hardly there anymore. Keep in mind the vinyl for the stripes is very thin. Im happy with mine.

This is why God made green apples, because not everyone likes the red ones.

I really wanted side stripes on mine, but with painted OTT stripes, it wasn’t an option. If at some point I add them, mine will be like those on Barrett Jackson’s car.

I vote no. I think they look cheap and silly.
And I don't much care for cats.

Tom: Pressing on the seams will be less and less effective until eventually, no more stick, unfortunately.

I hope it stays down, Tom and it may. I have examples of both on my other car.
I find that Xpel has a window of adhesion. I just got the car back today and saw a couple of spots lift a bit. I taped them down and I will leave it like that for a few weeks. That usually does the trick and they will stay down.
