I agree 100%, you can bet that they will use that against you in a warranty claim if they can.
Oh, and thats another good point. When I get mine, I will look into the hardware that is responsible for the data connection. I am hoping it is just a forscan tweak or a hardware adjustment. There must be a 4G transmitter and receiver in the car somewhere. I just hope its a standalone system and not integrated into a major system like sync or entertainment.

Some reading material for you.
1. If I am reading this correctly, the GPS & Sat Radio use the same antenna.
2. The cell system antennas are in the rear fascia behind the rear wheels.
- When I removed my rear fascia to install the tow hook I had to disconnect two items that I thought were the TPMS readers. Now I know they are the cell antennas. What a strange location. Minimize interference I guess.

Actually, it was my understanding that the job 1 antenna did not have sufficient 4G network connectivity. The solution was the job 2 shark antenna to provide better 4G reception to the AT&T network which your car uses for the Ford Pass connectivity. Ford Pass has a lot of neat features, but along with that has a bit of a dark side. I was up early and read the privacy policy. Ford tracks your cars location, driving habits, parameters, speeds, etc.

Not only will I be switching mine over to a round antenna, I will be opting out of Ford Pass. I will also be looking into ways to disable the monitored parameters because quite frankly, I don't think its anyone's business. I am not a conspiracy theorist, however my privacy is my privacy.
Tom: Check the document I just loaded.
Appears to me you can disconnect the TCU & Cell antennas to disable the spying systems (unless there is a SW change that does the trick). Not sure of the total impacts though, or what codes this will throw.

OK, so here's the question that comes to my mind...

If you have already signed up for FP, can you UNdo that after the fact or will the car keep phoning home no matter what?

And what are the downstream effects of disconnecting those antennas?

Still haven't used my points.

I think whether you opt in or not, ET is always phoning home. So it becomes a question for a good lawyer. Mine is a little swamped right now, so I will get an answer to this question as soon as i can

Knowing "the system" as I do, Tom, that is exactly what I thought. When the data is available, why WOULDN'T Ford (or any other vehicle manufacturer,) send it home? I'll be curious to hear what yours says when you can get a word in, but I can't imagine that Ford's attorneys would let them do it if they thought it was litigable.

I'll let you know. But if you opt in or out, it probably only has to do with the way ford uses your data. Either way, I'm sure it is being collected. And if there is data, a court order cartainly could attain that data (due to an accident or other investigation). It is of my opinion to just play it safe and cut the data umbilical cord.

Again, im a model citizen, but my business is my business.

I thought I read the two weren't compatible or interchangeable.
I agree the base is different, it's a cover that snaps on .

let me know if there is an app for that... I would like to sign up to keeping my privacy in house...
There is a black box riding along, at least you can tun off the tracking of the Ford pass, if worried. We get shark fin do-dads because so many love the new charm bracletts, aka cell phones.

But your driving habits, locations, speeds, everything you do is monitored and analyzed. I imagine if you were in an accident the first thing the opposite attorney would do is ask for is the data.

This link needs to be disabled.
Ford Pass, not tracking that... more of a selling & dealership tool.
For sure every computer controlled or monitored, code throwing car has an onboard black box.

So these days, my dog ate my homework, or the classic my brakes failed, no worky.

Too late in the game to start worrying about that angle, count on it.

Greg: I had a feeling someone in the know would say that. Grrr...

Like most I would imagine, I am weary of attempting to minimize my data footprint.

But, from the companies' point of view, I get it. They are probably entitled to data that could affect them legally and if you've lost millions or even billions in high jury awards, you might want to do the same thing.

I like to disassemble things.
The negative side of not signing up to Ford Pass, is that without it, you don't get the 42,000 points,
I honestly have zero care for any enticement laid before me in this regard. And because the courts will pry the data from your hands as they see fit I see no reason make it any easier for them to, in essence, have watch and control of how you use your purchase and the way in which you live your life.

I have no problem with a company doing that, saves the rest of us $$$$ ........ the very worst privacy intrusions are from goggly and other social media pages tracking folks.... that I totally avoid.
