Get your parents to help you out with the Charles Schwab account and put a big portion of your savings in it. Once you buy that Tesla (TSLA) stock, if you hold the stock (don't sell) till you graduate college or wait 4 to 5 years, you will have a lot of money.

Just deal with regular stock trading, do not do short selling (research about stock trading and gather up information on various topics of it and weigh in on its pros and cons).

Even a mutual fund would be good. Driving your dream car while you go to college is a bad idea. It will get trashed. Did you ever check out parking at most colleges?

At your age I wouldn't even think about an expensive car. I wouldn't let my 16 yeard drive a 2018 anything. He also has a job and qualifies for reduced insurance rates. Buy a project GT for les than 10k and mod it. Shit I have 2 cars with 100k plus miles that work like a charm that I spend little to nothing on insurance for. My 16 year old drives one and it costs him $20 a month for insurance. Yes I said $20. For a 16 year old. My mustang sits in the garage as a project car. Done multiple upgrades to it. Worst mistake I ever made was buying expensive sports cars (your ecoboost qualifies as such) at a young age (19-28) even though I could.

Yeah, first year I won’t take it it’ll sit in garage at home and aftwe that I will probably either be living with Grandparents commuting to school or in an apartment ideally with covered parking, but yeah it’s not great. School does have a few free parking garages tho which could come in clutch. Lol I’ve been talked out of the idea I just wanted to see if it was as ridiculous as it sounded- and people are still responding lmaooooo

Yeah no I totally understand, thankfully I’ve driven the car for about a year now with no issues or accidents or anything. Just curious, what were u driving?

You’re lucky Ethan, my first car was a 63 VW beetle with a 6 volt electrical system. Had to buy and put in a big clunky converter so I could put a radio in it. LOL

it was my grandmothers car that got driven to the grocery store every week or so. That was actually horrible on the motor.

My gf's son is 19 and he has own'd a porsche, Z28, 1932 Roadster, and Trans Am. He buys super low, puts some work into them and trades or sells up. Intitial investment $3k with a old Porsche and is now driving a 1932 Ford Roadster he paid nothing for. Zero. Got it in a trade. He also drives a high mileage modded bmw he paid $5k for and it drives like a dream. I do not discourage buying cars you love at a young age just do it smartly. It's part of becoming a man.

No I know, I hope that didn’t get lost anywhere in the thread. I am super fortunate, and there’s no doubt about that haha. But I just have always viewed the GT as sorta an ultimate dream car and I just kinda had a moment where I realized I could possibly save up to get one and it got me excited haha so I posted about it. But I won’t, I’ll hold onto the eco I just hope I don’t go Ecoboom lmao. I bet that beetle was cool tho!!

he saw it on the side of the road for a long time not being used. Wasn't even for sale. He was your age and he just went up to the guys door, asked what he was doing with it, made a low ball offer (what he had), told him it's what he had, and the old guy was so impressed with his spirit that he said take it (for what he offered). The guy said he wanted to see young guys buying cars like that and putting work into it. It was old and needed a lot work but it ran. he fixed up, sold it, and bought the 79' trans am which he turn sol and made money on.

Stick with Mustangs kid. I'm suspect of anyone on a Mustang forum who would tell you not to buy a Mustang.

"Re-badged" or "parts bin car" or not, both the Supra and upcoming Z car are closer to the classic and historical definition of a traditional "sports car"...i.e. a two seats...than the mustang. I would argue both are more "refined" as well: both are closer to a 50/50 weight balance, both handle better from the factory and overall, both are more in line with what has been historically defined as a "sports car" and not a "pony car."

The overall build and fit and finish quality of BMW and Toyota are superior to Ford's; while Nissan's overall build quality and fit/finish isn't to the level of BMW and Toyota, the past generations of Nissan's Z car has been at the very least equal to Ford...and probably better..in their build, fit/finish and long-term reliability.

The fact you are "suspect of anyone on a mustang forum who would tell you not to buy a mustang" is just plain DUMB. There are other "sports cars" besides the mustang...and yes, some of these "sports cars"are more refined, offer better driving/handling, have a better factory build quality and have a superior fit/finish quality than the mustang. Your "5.0 Bro" mentality is showing...

Your post finally convinced me to join this forum. I'm a bit older (32) and after researching for two years beforehand what I wanted to get for my first car, I got a '19 EcoBoost, also with the Black Accent Package (my favorite feature though is the Active Exhaust). A year later I've found some quirks with my car, but I'm liking it more as I get more comfortable driving it with more spirit. It's a great daily driver and my favorite part is only having to fuel up once a month or so (it was every 3-4 weeks before COVID, but work is also less than 5 miles away for me).

I'm also in a similar boat as you now, wanting to save up for a GT. That said I consider my more of a general car enthusiast and want to look at multiple considerations and configurations once I pay off my car in a few years or so. And by "multiple considerations", I mean on the opposite spectrum of enthusiasm and economy I'm considering a Sonata Hybrid (the car I originally wanted to get, but engine recalls [I was looking at the '18/'19s at the time] ultimately took that out of the running). We'll see where I'm at in five years or so, but I'm currently working on a road map of how I want to get to where I want (and would like) to be in life by that time.

Haha same I cant say I hate the fact that I basically never have to fill up, and on the highway especially it’s so nice. But I have faith in you my man to get to where you want to be and get a GT. I wish I had the active exhaust just for the quad tips haha
