The question is…why are the BMW M cars selling so well? I think Ford (and GM/Stellantis) failed at marketing the cars. BMW M cars were almost dead 10 years ago, and in the last 5-7 years sales skyrocketed. They know how to market with YouTube and Social Media.
How many are they actually selling though? I doubt 40k a year. Even though Mustang sales are at the lowest they have ever been I doubt they are selling the same amount of M cars.

Just imagine if Ford would’ve kept the S550 skin but with S650 suspension and Gen4 coyote.
I haven’t grown tired of the appearance of the S550 body. I also haven’t grown tired of the Challenger.

Hard to compare eras, because BMW has all sorts of "m" performance cars now. I.e. m340i. So it depends if you lump those into the same basket.

I smile everytime I walk up to my S550, it just looks great. When I sit in the driver seat I get another smile from the look of the dash.

BMW sold over 50k "M" cars in Q1 alone. That includes "M" package vehicles, but looking at the 2024 stats, 139,777 "M" package vs 66,805 "pure" M cars so assuming the sales split stayed roughly the same, they likely sold over 16k "M" cars in Q1.

For what it's worth Mustang sales are among the lowest they've ever been, I'd say ford likely sold less Mustangs in Q1 than BMW sold M cars.

I’m sorry (not really) but I have to laugh at some of the comments about price. $50k$-$55k for a pretty decently optioned Mustang with 486hp is too much yet some folks here have no problem dropping $70-$80k on a fricking pickup truck. Get real, I’ll take Mustang pricing over truck pricing any day.

All I know is that BMW Ms sales have broken previous records. Just look at how many YT channels feature G80s. It’s insane. And recently all the Hellcat owners have started moving on to the M cars.

Ford Marketing is making the same mistakes as GM Marketing that let the Camaro die.
