It also didn't hurt that while I was finishing up the deal on my BMW they actually asked if I wanted an aftermarket Carbahn tune installed by them before I took final delivery. BMW has went all in on the performance side of cars and it's working. There are literally zero new M's sitting. If they aren't sold in advance they sell within a day or so of arriving at the dealerships. I ordered and it took >2 months to get one.
See that’s really cool, that’s listening to what people want. Probably the most mild tune ever too lol, but it makes people feel nice. ā€œI just bought a tuned BMW! I never thought I’d have a tuned car!ā€

That sells

Most people will pick those other cars over a mustang, the sales numbers prove it.
Uhh, what? They made 43k Corvettes in 2024. They made less M2's than that. They made even less Supra's than the M2. Ford sold more Mustangs than all 3 of those models.

You can still get a Mustang GT for mid 40s, so I don't know what you are saying that you can't.

Any mustang you buy for new mid 40’s will frankly drive like garbage in comparison to even mid range BMW sedans. That’s a base model car.

Mustang sales are down 30% m sales are up approx 17%. I love my mustang but it does not compete with an m car at all.

S660 made it worse by becoming heavier and changing next to nothing about the drive. Still the same numb steering and floaty stock suspension, but with some screens added in to give the appearance of a new high end vehicle.

A car 20k cheaper than another car isn't on the same level? Color me shocked.

M2 base price 66k and you want to compare that to a base GT.

M2 can up the sales all it wants, it doesn't have a V8 and it's got looks only a mother can love.

Cya dude, you are not a serious person to discuss cars with.

It’s not really an official BMW program. That’s something that would be warrantied by the tuning company. I don’t think BMW is going to pony up for warranty work on a tuned engine even if the dealer did offer it. It does sound pretty neat though, I remember Volvo used to have similar with the ā€œpolestarā€ tunes.

Time to resurrect the Ranchero !
This.

If Ford made a new Ranchero out of the Maverick by getting rid of the back doors/seat and making the bed 2' longer, I'd buy one tomorrow. Same overall length of the Maverick. I can picture it.

I can't imagine it would be that terribly expensive to tool either, sharing as many parts with the Maverick as possible. It would be another affordable first that nobody else is building.

Can someone point me to a new car that DOESN’T have gauges on a screen?

I believe it is industry standard.

You're just having a hard time admitting that in the modern car scene a mustang is kind of not what people want.
Because no i didn't compare it to an M2, i compared it to a mid level BMW sedan. A 540 xi will absolutely outdrive a base GT all day long. Then it also can be tuned to be faster with a damn email tune. Something we cannot do.

This is exactly what I struggled with. I'm a mustang guy and up to now the biggest detractor you could imagine towards BMW. They had and still do have a terrible image when it comes to quality, but it took exactly 4 turns before I returned and started the order. They're building what a lot of people want. Quick cars at somewhat reasonable prices and as far as I can tell they're not trying to keep them locked down from the tuning crowd. I still prefer the interior of the S550, but driving is believing. It was what I always wanted from a mustang, and I do know that's naive.

With that said I do sincerely hope Ford will ultimately build what I'm looking for - a diet version of the mustang. Reduce the footprint and price. I know it's hard with new regulations, but I'd be in line tomorrow for Fox bodied size mustang with a V8. Get it down to 3500ish lbs and give me a suspension from the factory (in a GT) that makes it corner as well as it'll charge through the 1/4. We can all dream, right?

The base M2 comes with a lot more features than the base GT, by a long way! optioned up to remotely close options and the M2 isn't much more expensive. A dorkhorse can be optioned up way over an M2...Like it or not, they DO get cross shopped. The mustang is still a bargain(used), but, BMW isn't locking their computers and mods and tuning are easy! They are becoming enthusiast vehicles because of the ease of making good power. Looks are subjective.

Just imagine if Ford would’ve kept the S550 skin but with S650 suspension and Gen4 coyote.
I haven’t grown tired of the appearance of the S550 body. I also haven’t grown tired of the Challenger.
It's basically the same "base" of a car with what looks like aftermarket bolt ons. There's no continuity to the car. The front end and rear end don't seem to fit on the body. Mainly the front end.

Uh, aren't the ECU's locked and people have to send them out to get them unlocked-and pay $1k for the privilege?

Then they've lost the diehard performance car crowd due to the absurd potential the BMW turbo i6 engines have, which has drawn away Mustang modders.
It's weird. I go on BMW Forums from time to time. (The wife has a M240 so I dabble) And I hear the exact same criticisms with regards to their cars.

Didn't BMW also "lock" out tuning similar to how Ford did? I can't recall exactly. I feel like there was also some talk of narc system that communicates with the "cloud" when something is adjusted outside of factory spec?

Definitely don't quote me, I was just lurking their forums. I do know they complain just as much as we do though šŸ˜‚

Yes, the ECUs are locked. 2021+. People send them out overseas to get them cracked.. it's basically one company that does it. Those piggyback devices are far more limited, but people use them because they think dealers can't detect them, plus it doesn't permanently alter anything, so dealer cant update your software and brick your ecu or require you to send it out again.

Anyway. Not as easy or foolproof as it sounds, but if you can use a piggyback device and get +50whp easily, i mean that's pretty nice.

As far as I know, there are some crazy Eurocar security regulations with their ECUs, so this stuff is only going to get harder to deal with.
