Sorry if this has been discussed to death, but I can't find any comparisons of the v6 and i4 car...

When the v6 was the base model in the previous gen, I recall that with a track pack (which no longer exists for the v6 it seems) it was spanking evos and stis around a track (might have been willow springs?) in a mag review.

I am due for a new daily and like the no hassle idea of a v6 over the boosted i4. I own FI cars and while fun - I wouldn't daily one. Ever.

So, is the eco that much better of a car that no-one but Hertz should buy V6 any more, or what's the consensus?

Input (even links to this very forum) very much appreciated.
Search functions on forums are kinda... useless.

But seriously in terms of going around a track the performance pack EB is that much better than the V6 and is more torquey. The V6 is a very good and well proven engine with very close overall performance though in terms of stock for stock cars. Mods are the major difference. And there is no reason to say you wouldn't daily drive an EB these cars are built to last

I'm in the same boat. Want a premium (only 4) but love the feel and sound of the 6. Probably wouldn't mod either, just drive. The 4 is probably fine to daily drive (fusion and escape have a smaller version) and the new Lincoln SUV has this exact engine so I would think it can be used like any other car, gas and oil changes, and you're good. The turbo 2.3 uses premium but gets better MPG's. The 6 uses regular but uses a bit more of it so I would think economy is a wash. The 4 might be better if you do a lot of highway driving though. My opinion, if you like the 6 make sure to get the 3.55 gear option and you'll like it just fine as long as you can do without the premium options. Some of which I think you can add later as more people learn about the car.

I commute a 120 miles a day.
I live in the rust belt.
I am a fear head. Meaning, there is no way in hell I wouldn't mod the crap out of the little snail, just like I did with my other cars. Let me tell you, reliability just isn't the same as NA, no matter how new / good / proven a car might be.
Hence, the V6 is tempting, but there is almost 0 information on it available.

Are there at least dyno comps? Anything???

Thanks for the replies so far, but something objective would be nice :)

I've daily driven modded turbo cars for years,I've never had an issue so not sure why you wouldnt want to daily one. They are both great go test drive and buy what you like.

I just don't understand the EB... more money, slightly better HP/torque requiring premium fuel (sometimes $.80 different per gallon than regular!) EB... more complicated but more torquey (that's a word now.)

Credit to Ford for coming up with an I4 EB engine with 300+ HP. WOW! Job well done. At the same time, the 3.7 V6 is also a GREAT engine.

After graduating from elementary school and being able to afford the gas bill, the 435 HP V8 just seems right in a Mustang (I was born in the 60's). Anyone whose grown up with $4 gas might think the I4 EB makes way more sense and they'd be right. I'm just stubborn and like the visceral feel of a V8.

Secretly, I'd rather have the pony on my trunk though... "GT" in a circle looks stupid.

I guess it's not a secret now.

You got it on all points. Definitely do the item in bold.

Both are great engines and both are fun to drive. Just figure out where your priorities are (to mod or not, want great V-engine sound or not, need premium interior or not) and test drive both to see which is for you.

Zero information on the 3.7 V6? Are you kidding?

If you didn't want to go too crazy with mods but still wanted to tune some power of out it and weren't planning on supercharging then I'd go for the ecoboost since it seems to have more potential with just bolt-ons plus tune. If you are going to supercharge then I'd want the better sounding NA engine.

There's a locked thread in the V6 section of the forum with a few pages of V6 vs eco banter. It's got a lot of good points in there and dyno charts. Check it out.

I'm getting out of here before this thread blows up!

Hope you're not referring to me saying that the v6 engine sounds better. That's obviously a very subjective thing which is why I said "I'd want".
