Yea, that's pretty normal in AZ summers. I removed the felt hood liner and now see a max of 215* CHTs, typically around 205*. I would recommend it in this climate. Plus, there's an awesome surprise underneath it.

Mine gets to 221 or so, then the fans kick on, bring it to 195 - 200, repeat. I believe 220 is the best temp for carbon burn off, and the CHT is designed to reach that before cooling off with the fans.

I routinely see 215-219 cyl head temps in the dead of Summer with the AC on (with a 170 deg Reische t-stat). I live in Phoenix as well and it's a killer! Keep in mind actual engine coolant temps run 7-10 degrees cooler than cyl head temps. I believe the Cyl Head Temp is an inferred number by the ECU.

Thank you guys!
Should I go with 160 degree thermostat or should I get performance radiator & fans ?

Get an ethanol tune. My CHTs stay low 200s consistantly even when beating on the 5.0 pretty good. When I switch to regular gas they rise a noticeable amount.

You should leave your car alone, and do nothing. There is nothing wrong with your car, don't mess around with it. It's perfectly fine.

If you can't stop obsessing, change your factory coolant and engine oil. Use factory coolant, and the best oil & filter your money can buy. Those two things are more important than any mods you could do.

Don't have to but if you have money to burn you can get a low temp therm, enclosed CAI, better flowing grills\grill delete, and like a mishimoto radiator.

Ford designed these cars to run at that temperature for a reason. Gas mileage, oil flow, carbon deposits, and water burn off are reasons to run at high temps.

If you want Your car to work for a long time with no problems leave it stock. Messing with anything is playing with something that hasn’t been tested for thousands of hours.

Ford designed them to run that hot for emissions, just like every other car in the planet. The cooler your cht the better the car will run, period.

^^^ ding, ding, ding - winna!

Exactly - there’s nothing wrong with your vehicle or the temps you are seeing.

A 160* stat is too low.

Are you N/A, turbo’d or supercharged?

If N/A Coyote, you risk the chance of causing more harm than good to the engine if using a 160 stat (seriously).

Popping in a 160 stat years ago was the “fad” for the older 5.0’s, until it was found that doing such a thing in a modern computer equipped N/A 5.0 has absolutely no benefits and causes detrimental effects internally, such as shortening engine life (due to cylinder wash out), bad fuel mpgs, not allowing the engine to get to optimal temps and many other issues.

Even most thermostat manufacturers will have FAQ posted and tell consumers to pick the right thermostat and not one that is too low.

Here’s a good article from Reische Performance:

https://www.reischeperformance.com/tstatinfo.html

Not to mention, the S550 PCM is programmed for optimum engine temp parameters, fan controls and operation which affects many other parameters as to how that engine performs; installing a 160* isn’t going to change those parameters. You would not only have to change out the stat, but also get a tuner (or handheld equipment yourself) to change the preprogrammed PCM parameters to even get any benefit from a lower stat.

If the car is not a dedicated true race car, there’s no need to touch the thermostat.

I don’t know where the “160* is best” ever came from... Yea, maybe it works for a 289 with a Holley, but it’s not the same in a modern day vehicle.

It’s your car, do what you want - but there’s nothing wrong with those temps.
