It is a factory driveshaft. Did you mean 16lb lighter than the S197 driveshaft? That's about 16 lbs lighter than the factory mt82 driveshaft if I'm not mistaken

True. It's going to be a hard sell to replace the drive shaft. Most of the aluminum drive shafts run 19 or 20 pounds. You would only lose 10 pound and the associated effects for $800.
10 lbs of rotating mass is substantial for acceleration. CF may save 15lbs for a few hundred more and couple that with a free spinning aluminum flywheel and a good aluminum SFI harmonic balancer to save another 15lbs while keeping the engine together. It's going to be a hard sell to replace the drive shaft. The EB has a driveshaft is similar to the GT, no more exploding shafts.Does anyone know if the driveshafts are different between the EB and the V8? I remember watching some very hilarious/scary videos of V6 crankshafts exploding at high speeds.
True.
But, it also depends on how strong and durable the OEM is, for the owners who will be racing the car.
This car is going to make a ton of power. The DS upgrade may not be so much about weight, but safety and durability. The additional performance will then become a bonus.
