Hi guys,

I got my car on the lift ramps today to install the Corsa X-Pipe and I saw that the underbody of the car appears to have no rust protection.

Any of you guys did something about it? Some guy recommended the DINITROL 4941 spray for the underside.

What do you think?

Huh? What product you're referring to?

My GT350 will never see salt water or snow! It's just incompatible...

I thought rust protection was a thing of the past on most modern cars. Never had an issue with any of my German cars rusting and I live close to the ocean. Haven't owned a Ford in over 20 years. I know that rust had been an issue of the past, hence the nickname "Rustang", but assumed modern Mustangs are better.

I'm interested in the feedback from long time Ford owners and the need for rust protection in general.

Well truth be told, all of them most certainly use galvanisation in order to protect the chassis and body from rust but I saw that the GT350 underneath is kind of exposed or naked.

If you look at most german cars, like for example on my E60 5 series (that's 12 years old) most of them have a flat belly, consisting of plastic underbody parts that hide the actual chassis. You can only see the exhaust pipes and tunnel.

Also most of them use rubber/plastic jacking points. The GT350 as we know forces us to jack the car on the chassis welding points.

if you apply it on top of the salt, obviously it won't work.... If you apply it on clean, dry metal surface, it will work wonders to protect it from rust to form.
Try it. once dried, it will not be washed out by water.

Now salt, that's a different story.
...But why on earth would you drive a GT350 on snow.

I had mine professionally rust proofed in Dinitrol because here they salt the road in winter. Small stones chip the surface of the metal leaving exposed metal to rust. Hence a soft thick wax coating helps by absorbing the impact and preventing the underbody from being damaged. It’s amazing how it absorbed road noise too!
Just make sure you don’t get any on balanced parts like the prop shaft!

Unless you are dragging the underside of the car over gravel what is the point? The body is treated for corrosion. All steel is galvanized and aluminum is inherently not prone to corrosion.

If aesthetics is your ultimate goal paint the underside black.
If aluminum doesnt rust as per what you are saying then how come there is all this discussion about rusting aluminum hoods?

Aluminum doesn't like paint, and paint doesn't like aluminum. Decades of science and technology have made them tolerate each other, but given the chance, they'll separate. If a painted aluminum surface gets a chance to corrode, paint won't stick, or if it does stick, it won't stick for long.
