What are the possible consequences of running a downpipe without a tune? (other than the secondary o2 deficiency code and the pvc smoking issue) Could a downpipe cause unnecessary wear on the turbo, sensors, or engine? Would boost creeping/over boost or maybe even running lean be a possible issue?

From what I have read, no, it shouldn't be a problem, but if you want better power with the downpipe a tune is highly recommended.

I ran it with the conservative tune for about a week since I was waiting for Tune+'s Black Friday deal. It just limited the max boost to about 15psi. I did get a code for the downpipe and the car seemed to run rich too. I don't know if that caused it to smell so bad but when I got my tune it reduced the smell by a lot.

You don't need a tune euthanasia catted down pipe, it might help, but not necessary.

A tune is not required. The cp-e downpipe even includes an 02 spacer to keep the mil off. That said you will not hurt the engine but will lose some power if not tuned. Prior to any tuning I lost some tq on the dyno when I installed my catless dp. Best case scenario is catless dp and a proper tune. I highly recommend you talk to Adam of Tune+ first. His etune is by far the best mod you can buy.

No real downside, it'll just make you want a tune for it that much more.

Here's a great downpipe and it's 15% off right now too. The coupon code is BKF_15 for that deal.

We've also got custom tuning available at 15% off. Get an X4 and custom tune for a great price!
