What kind of "cartridge filter"......you don't use an FL-500S on the GT-350??
You're kidding, right? The 2015/16 cars had the FL2069ST and the 2017 and later cars have a cartridge filter.

I suppose drilling a hole in the cartridge filter is a bit drastic.

Anyone with a 2018+ or retrofit 2015-2017 has the following canister assembly.

I doubt anyone can answer that question other than a Ford engineer and they won't say. However, Ford definitely went out of their way to make sure you can't use an FL500S on a Voodoo - for the Voodoo's that take the spin-on filter, the threads are different.

They produced engines with the spin-on filter for the first year or so of production and then they switched to a canister filter. Speculation is that they switched because service techs were doing what they've always done with spin-on filters - run it up until the gasket makes contact and give it an extra 3/4 turn and you're done. Do that on a Voodoo and the filter falls off fairly soon after it's installed. So they switched to a canister, which seems to have solved the "falling off" problem. The other solution to the "falling off" problem is to torque the filter to the proper 16-18 ft-lbs (it's in big letters on the filter) and it'll stay on just fine. And maybe that's why they didn't want people using FL500S's - they don't say "Torque to 16 - 18 ft-lbs" on them (and they don't have thread locker on the threads either) and they'd constantly be falling off a few days after an oil change.

Yup! Love safety wire. I safely wire my filter and my drain plug! Why? Because I’m worried about it backing off or something?? Nope. Because I’m a big fat nerd, that’s why!!

Why thank you. I agree! I’d do a lot of other stuff if I could, LOL. Aviation here my whole life too, plus an A&P. There’s actually quite a few of us in here.

Very cool. I've also noticed it seems like there are quite a few other pilots/mechanics on the forum, which is funny because aviation is such a small community. Must be something about this car...

@pilotgore I agree. I’ve always said we have a disproportionate number of pilot members in here. It IS the car, LOL.

Pretty subtle at first glance, but my user name is a clue to my aviation background as well ;)
