Ryan, who did you have do the work and how much was it?
I've not heard the Comp series, but from everything I have seen/heard, the JBA axle back is very, very similar in tone and volume (possibly even less) to the Magnaflow Street. From the outside they appear to have a very similar design, as well. Most say the Comp is way louder than the street, so I would guess my X-pipe + JBA is still significantly quieter than the Comp axle back. A friend rode with me today who has the Borla S-type catback and he said it was too quiet. I disagree :lol:. It's loud enough that you can hear it under any form of acceleration, but with windows closed, only maybe 20% louder than just the resonator delete. The biggest change is that the tone is now deep and no rasp at all. It has a bit of deep cabin presence/boom at low rpm that is actually getting less with every mile I drive on it. That said, it's not annoying at all, and no drone. I'm pretty sensitive to not having a very loud setup as I have close neighbors who I don't want to upset, nor attract the wrong type of attention. I still think there's something with how I currently have it aligned that's making it more boomy...i.e. the rear hanger rod is fully up against the hanger. I'm going to keep putting miles on it, and if fixing the alignment and putting miles on it doesn't bring it down more, I may look at something else.
I don't notice any drone at all - and these are virtually identical to the Roush-branded cans, but they are packed and baffled differently. They're way lighter than stock too. You can pedal it so that it's no louder than stock, and it's really just a deeper sound -- maybe just a little louder -- still, I wouldn't jump on it with police around if you're in a communist state like MD. I have a couple of friends in MD with modified exhaust, and they don't have problems, but their systems are not on the loud side.
Well, I'm not sure who else is running them here. I would have to go out and test to see if it's anything that I think qualifies as "drone". I was impressed with the build quality of these units, and am really happy with them. I've had a car that was punishingly loud at highway speeds, and this is just fine -- even with the base radio. My latest highway experience included lots of "too-fast-feel-good music" like James Brown's "Soul Power", loads of AC/DC (Bon forever!), ROTM, etc. That means lots of shifting and pedaling though...
I'll check this weekend and report back -- unless I get it out tonight. I think there is some sound in that range, but I'm not one to be rolling on the power in 5th from 1500 usually. I will say that I can make a little more noise inside, and it's a deeper sound, but not more invasive than stock. I don't believe you'd be unhappy with these -- if I were in Indy, I'd invite you for a ride -- I have family in Jackson county, and West Lafayette...
I suggested this as a test, bc in 6th you will be speeding at 2500. With 5th you won't bog at 1500, nor have to change gears. It's a pretty straightforward test for the "drone range", lol.
