Absolutely positively not. The only possible shred of truth to this is that they will have to begin to produce new supercharged 5.2's for the GTD and that may be labeled Legend, but it not for a new GT500 as Ford didn't renew their Shelby licensing agreement which is why they have the Dark Horse product line now instead of Shelby models.

5.2 NA GT350 Engine- Voodoo
5.2 SC GT500 Engine - Predator
5.2 SC Raptor Engine - Carnivore
5.2 SC GTD Engine - Legend ???

Thats the thing. No need to use facts in media anymore. Just post opinions with a vague "told by an anonymous source" without any need to actually validate the anonymous source.

Also I was replying to the OP, you just happened to reply while I was typing my response.

I like to disassemble things.
R&T was crediting Reddit when it was merely Reddit users that copied and pasted from Mustang7G an image which was taken of a report in the UAW Local 600 newsletter. It would seem certain R&T "journalists" don't stray too far from Reddit.

You can download the agreement between the UAW/Ford but I would in no way infer that as an accurate indicator as to evidence of an upcoming GT500. As to "Legend" being the latest moniker associated with a given 5.2L engine from Ford, that is correct.

I asked early on and have been under the impression that the 5.2L engine going into the GTD was also going to see hands on it that the Raptor R assembly doesn't. Awaiting more detail on that one.

Road and Track was reporting based on a supposed leaked UAW document they said they hadn’t verified. Everybody can come to their own conclusion. I didn’t see anything about an anonymous source.

I explained the chain of events.

I also posted this a few days ago at 7G, where that image was first posted (so far as I have been able to verify).

"I spent some time looking and I believe it is a screenshot from the "Local 600 Facts! Newsletter." My guess is that Local 600 members get a given copy quicker than it is posted online. My bet is that it is from their January-February 2025 newsletter, which as you'll see, hasn't been put up yet. Likely that it was written by Frank Engel from DEP and is his latest report submitted to the newsletter."

I get it, it was more of a statement in general.

That being said the UAW contact is dead wrong that this is in anyway related to a 2026 Shelby GT500. As I said, the GTD is using a modified version of the former GT500's Predator engine and that will absolutely need built, but Ford has not renewed the license with Shelby to allow them to use the Shelby name on Ford produced products, hence why Shelby American released their GT350 last month and I wouldn't be shocked if we see them attempt to cash in on the 60th anniversary of the 1967 GT500 with a 2027 GT500 from Shelby American, but definitely not direct from Ford.

Let's hope not. A gt500 650 will be an absolute downgrade of a car compared to the 550. Ford needs to cut bait with this model already.

Let's hear some powertrain rumors....

5.2? 5.6? Twin turbo?

Manual returns? 8 or 9 speed DCT?

It sees like the licensing agreement between Ford Motor Company and Shelby American has ended. So a GT500 is highly unlikely.

Ford provides the engines and chassis to Multimatic in Canada, so this is more likely the scenario. Unless a Super Duper Dark Horse Extreme Supreme is built by Ford. But with Jim Farley around, it would be some EcoBoost engine.
