I apologize if this has been covered before but my search skills may not be up to snuff.

I'm looking to buy a GT350 or GT350R. I've found a 2017 that's very interesting to me but the carfax shows an engine replacement in June 2019. Is an engine replacement a negative for the value of the car since it's not the original or does it increase the value since it's likely the updated motor?

If it was replaced by a Gen 2 Voodoo and you are getting a deal I would consider it a positive. I think others may look at it differently if numbers matching is important to them.

Is your purchase planned as a VIN matching pristine vehicle you hope to sell someday above market value?
Or,
Are you looking for a good value car to OEM spec you can drive and enjoy and perhaps sell someday at a good market price to another owners seeking the same?

The latter. I want to drive and enjoy the car but also make sure I'm not throwing any more money away than my hobby (obsession) requires.

Then my focus would be:
1) Getting a good deal
2) Getting the new version of the Voodoo
3) Is the warranty extended for the new engine?

All of those would be positive selling points should you decide to resell in the future, based on market values at that time, for a driver buyer vs a pristine buyer.

Still, vet the car for service history and any other issues to assure they have been addressed appropriately for OEM specs and warranty.

It won’t matter in 30 years, as by then most cars will be electric anyhow. Do the Hemi dodges and Boss 429s From the 60’s to 71 with a documented factory replacement engine cost less now? Not much less.

And from what we've been seeing Ford does matching VINs on replacement engines.

No they don’t. You get a new long block and it’s not going to have the same number as the first one.

I don't want a Coal Fired Powered car...........!
Oh wait, that contradicts the narrative.

A warranty replacement engine will never have the original VIN stamped into it - ever. That’s regardless of pedigree too - base or “limited edition” and if it were a classic or modern day Mustang.

Hello from north Indy!

I’m curious, how much cheaper is this car compared to other 17’s with original engines?

I agree with the others that a newer engine is probably a good thing unless you’re holding the car for 40-50 years then planning to resell and squeeze out maximum value. How long has the car been for sale or when did the previous owner trade it in? Any idea how many miles since the engine swap? I’d be most curious about why the previous owner dumped the car soon after the engine was changed. Was the owner upset about other problems related to the engine swap? Was the owner possibly disillusioned with the long process of the engine swap and dealing with ford customer service that they got pissed and decided to sell it months later? Or.... did life just happen and they sold the car for the normal reasons you sell the car.

My biggest concern would be possible underlying problems related to the swap that may come back to bite you later. If there’s an extended warranty on the new engine and/or you’re getting a discount, then it may be a great way to go.

Since I’m in Indy also, feel free to DM me for my cell # if you ever have questions or whatever!

Goodluck with the search.

Thanks everyone for the responses. The one with a replacement motor is priced similarly to others and the salesman stopped talking to me after I mentioned it so it's off my list.

It makes a $10k+ difference on a 60+ year old Porsche :)
