No, every other fill-up is fine unless you get a lot better gas mileage than I do.
Admittedly there almost all highway miles but lots of shifting into lower gears and at nearly 12000 miles mine just ticked up to over 20.1 mpg average since I bought it. Think I can get a rebate on my gas guzzler tax?
Regarding oil usage, I would advise new owners to check every 500 miles the first few times to get some idea if they got a bad engine then only every 1000 miles after that although you could still check more often if you want to for peace of mind but not necessary.

My car uses 1 quart in approx 500-600 miles city driving.
Just recently did a 1200 mile highway trip and was only down half a quart. I was also getting 20-21.5 MPG. It clearly uses more oil with spirited driving than cruising down the highway. My car has just under 18,000 miles

You guys are doing it wrong. If you're above 15 mpg, something is wrong. Last track day I was at 4.4 mpg :)

The bit I find interesting is that only one reported failure happened at over 10k miles. Admittedly it's a tiny sample but seems to suggest that if you have a "bad" engine it's gonna show very early in life, and the higher in miles you go without a problem the safer you are.
Or that if you don’t check your oil frequently as a new owner it’s more likely to go.

There was a guy locally that lost his engine from low oil pressure, it had 24,000 miles on it
Could you maybe ask him to share here on the forum, so his info could be added?

At any rate,, it makes it 2 cars over 10k miles out of 22 reported. I still feel it might work that way.

I'm not in your league, but I was blown away when he said 20 plus for the lifetime of the car....:eyebulge:

I've driven reasonable/longish commuting etc (I thought) and I can't break 20 plus for a tank.

Yes, please get more info. I try to avoid any data that is from "I heard so and so blew their motors"

Thank you..updated.

The list is growing slowly as I've had some time to work on it.

Nice job of putting a detailed spread sheet together for all of the engine failures.

Having said that it sure would be nice to get access to some Ford data that would allow us to have an accurate count of all engine failures for the ~20,000 cars built so far but personally I don't ever see that happening.
