I see mods like hood vents and aftermarket grills that say things like increases air flow/releases engine heat. Anyone measure underhood temps to see if they make a difference? Thanks!

I'll assume these are cosmetic then and don't actually reduce engine bay heat more than stock configuration.

mostly cosmetic, and heat removal would have minimal affect

Yes they can cool down the engine bay, but they all generally only work when the car is moving. You also have to decide whether the cooler temps are more important to you or the proper air flow. The GT350 front grille was revised slightly and it wasn't to open it all the way up...

Even in California heat I notice oil temp to not be too high. Even if I drive it hard it won't overheat compared to my 370z from before without having to have an aftermarket oil cooler installed that thing will go into limp mode.

If you look at a bare hood with no vents installed, the actual openings in the sheet metal of the hood aren’t that big. Any aftermarket vent that fits in that space is likely just a cosmetic mod, unless installation involves enlarging those openings. A front grille with more of the holes open would help with bringing in more air, though I don’t know how a significant change might affect hood flutter.

One reason not to open up the front grille is aero. There is a good reason that a large portion of the grille is blocked off.

If you really want to reduce under hood temps, get your manifolds/headers coated with this. I have done this to several cars I have owned and nothing else compares, plus it reduces the temps whether you are moving or not.

I agree, ceramic coating is fantastic. I had a header coated maybe 7 years ago on a Honda and it only starting flaking off recently near the bottom, presumably from all the abuse from the road. Up top it's still intact. Coated the alum intake manifold too and it looks as good as the day it was done. Not only does ceramic keep things cooler, it looks much better as well. After having the pieces coated, I didn't notice the usual big drop in power from the outside temp getting blistering hot. if I was installing headers on the Mustang I'd either buy them coated or have them done pre-install.

There are a few things to think about here. Grille shutters are functional as they may open at low speeds to provide cooling and nearly close at highway speeds to reduce drag. Functional hood vents(heat extractors) can lower temperatures 10 or so degrees when moving and ram air hoods have an opening to direct airflow to your intake. Granted this stuff will provide minimal benefit on public roads. These items sell because they look good.

Precisely.
