Does anyone know where to find some replacements for those push twist retainers that are used to hold the battery box closed?

interesting to see this here. I dropped two of them into my engine bay. One went to the pavement, and the other got stuck somewhere. I started the car, and gave it a quick gas / brake, and the second one dropped to the pavement.

Same here, but two of mine decided they were going to make the bottom of the engine home, never to be seen again:shrug:

I' don't have any on it right now, it's not like that cover can go anywhere with the hood closed.

I dropped one and it landed between the exhaust manifold and head. Lucky I found it before giving up and firing up the engine ... would have burned up.

Lesson learned ... completely remove the cover fasteners before removing the cover.

You can probably get new ones from the dealership ... shouldn't cost much I would think.

W716510-S300 is the part number for a four pack. I picked them up on Amazon but most dealers should have them. I paid under $9 with shipping from a dealer that was selling through Amazon.

My question is, how do you use the retainers? They go through hole in the cover, and presumably holes in the sheet metal. Are they unscrewed or just popped out whole? There must be a reason for the cross shape on top. The illustrations I've seen seem to show the retainer is in two parts. Does the socket stay in and the plug come out?

Turn the center part with the cross shape counter clockwise while pulling on it up slightly. That part will raise up and that then allows the bigger part to come out of the sheet metal hole. It should come out as one piece. Reverse the process to install .

^^^ The key is to remove the cover fasteners before removing the cover. If the fasteners are loosened and left on the cover when removed, chances are the fasteners are going to fall into the engine compartment .

You really don't need them. I haven't had any fasteners on my battery cover for two years now, and the cover hasn't gone anywhere.

Never lost mine... they just got damaged by a shop who didn't undo them right... and I'm not gonna pay $10+ for a few plastic screws.

I managed to drop two while trying to put them back in.

They are slippery things.
