I realize this question may seem lame BUT I am desperate so here goes. I ordered a 2018 GT premium with the PP1 years back and outfitted it exactly as I wanted it. I love everything about this car and want to keep it (has less than 10k miles on the odo) BUT I am finding the Recaros uncomfortable on my back and sciatic nerves nowadays. Has anyone found a way to live more comfortably with these seats? Has anyone ever found some type of back insert that work?

As I said, this is a lame question but any suggestions for would be appreciate.

Thanks

You could take to upholstery shop and get them to adjust foams and cover accordingly, or just buy some Premium seats from recyclers.

Can also buy real Recaros for about 3-8K each depending on model selected the sport comfort ones are costly but the best can get.

Volvo S60R seats are great can adapt to mount in though may lose airbags, then get Katzkins for Volvo fronts and matching material for a rear seat delete panel or mustang rear only kit.

I found some lumbar support on Amazon that work well with the recaros.

I’m about to do a 2500 mile drive to Florida from California on a move and I’m not looking forward to it but I will do it. I wouldn’t trade my Recaros for anything.

I find myself always leaning on the console and the bottom two ribs feel like the seat is putting pressure on that spot. I had planned on having a buddy make a leather covered 1"+ pad for the seat back to push me forward a bit to get some relief from the squeeze. Picking up my car this week and by the time I get home will have repeatedly moved left to get "comfy". These seats are meant for skinny folks.

Yes, they suck. And no heat or cooling.

It's not lame. The Recaros are love or hate. Very purpose built seat. I've read about people putting a small rectangular pillow in the lower back area and enjoying relief. But the best move is to own a set of comfort seats to swap in as needed. I did it. Very happy. The 2016 to 2020 GT350 seats offer grip but also comfort. Ymmv

I would see a car upholsterer to see what they can do for you.
The seat frames are the same as the premium seats except for the front part of the seat surface; you can also make something different from the OEM parts, depending on what bothers you.

@TonyNJ The GT/Bullitt/Mach1 Recaros are different to the Shelby Recaros!

I absolutely adore my seats. I specifically picked this one because I wanted the Recaro package. They never get bad. No matter how long the drive, my back and legs are happy.

I do think it can be hit or miss depending on height, weight, body proportions. When I weighed 240, I don’t think they would have been as comfy. Now I’m 185 at 6 feet tall with regular proportions, which is likely dead center of the intended average body they form the seat for.

I’m a sucker for sports seats in general. If I wanted big comfy captains chairs, I would get an Escalade. I just love the feeling of a good Recaro or Sparco seat. Or even the seats they put in Audi VW products.

To this day, VW R32 and Golf R seats are at the top of my list personal list for most comfy. The old R32 has Koneg seats that I would kill to be able to buy new somewhere. Just absolute perfection.

Agreed! I ordered mine with red Recaro (pp2). Tried them prior, I know I couldn’t gain any weight to fit comfortably in them. So, to continue enjoying them I got into an exercise regiment at 20,000 steps/day and never look back, age 60 5.11 @ 182 pounds. If I ever get rid of the Mustang then I’ll reduce the exercise to half😄😎. In life, one has to have some kind of motivation to get or to maintain certain life styles. For now, it is just that for me. I hope he finds some kind of way to keep and enjoy the Recaro seats and, of course, the Mustang! Good luck to him.

Coming from someone with chronic back issues I can relate. In my case the fix was my F-150 lol.

I also didn't do myself any favors swapping my recaro's for a set of Sparco Carbon Fiber race seats.

Good luck OP.

I test drove a couple of cars before I purchased mine, one had Recaros, though they looked good I found after 30 mins I found they were not as comfortable as the standard Leather seats and of course the heating and cooling made the decision.
You might be able to pick up a pair of standard seats from another car and you could leave your Recaros intact.

Depending on your stature you may want to try a wage pillow under your butt to lift your back into the sweet spot.
