This is my 3rd weekend attempting this. Give a hand please.

Lowering spring installed. Koni shock drilled out ready to roll.

But ... and I've done this four times.... I try to tighten the bolt that goes in the cb005 bracket it gets so tight I think I'm stripping it and can barely move it..

I'm not a small man, I keep retracting the bolt and it's not stripped but I keep chickening out. Is this normal? Does it normally get super tight ?

We're talking a half inch out when it starts tightening up, I could understand if it was the last two turns of the wrench but it's not.

It's the "bolt at 2:25 of this video
I recommend you PM the BMR tech here in this page. You will not a more informed vendor in this group than him. And he is a really nice guy that will make sure you get it done correctly. Becareful of stripping. I stripped one re tapped it and up and running again. The cradle is not aligned this is why you are having this problem. I will alert the BMR tech to this thread.

OP, did you get it figured out or not?

If you need to give me a ring, I would be more than happy to help you with whatever you are trying to do. I have a little bit of experience with this stuff, I could likely shed some light.

DO NOT FORCE IT...I had the same issue and forced it in and ended up having to buy a tap and dy kit to clean up the threads, huge PITA. I would keep trying until it just goes in how it should
Can you provide info on the tap and die set you used? I'm 100% certain I have messed up the threads. The first 2 threads on the bolt are junk.

I did this too, except I did not feel like I was forcing the bolt. It was going in fine until like 4 threads in and then I would hit a hard stop like it was fully seated. I tried a couple more times but kept hitting the exact same spot. Looked up in with a flashlight and saw a nice little crescent moon looking sliver of metal protruding from one side. Had to get a 13mm tap and fix it. It kinda has me afraid to ever remove the cradle again because it did not feel like anything, it went in smooth. One thing I noticed is the bolts have what appear to be self tapping threads which I am guessing is what made the bolt go in wrong so easy. Why on earth would those bolts have such a thing? There is no fucking way you are going to self tap a hole that big.

I had to buy an individual tap because all the kits went up to 12mm and you need a 13mm.

Thanks! Looks like this is my next move.

I forgot which size I used and won't be home for a while but your average hardware store will NOT have it. The kit cost me $85 plus tax. It was a very very easy fix. Just turn it and make sure it is not running up at an angle. Let it pull itself up don't force it. Once you get up all the way in it (lol this is starting to sound perverted ) bring it back down and turn it up in there again. You want to clean it out by doing this over and over.

I will add to this, do small increments at a time and use something like PB Blaster for lube to keep it turning smooth. Spray some lube, go in, let it cut a bit then back it out and clear the shavings. Do this until it goes all the way in. You may luck out like I did and find the 13mm tap at the store, I found mine in Lowes. I did not buy a whole kit either, just the single tap. I put the tap into a 7 or 8mm socket and ratchet and used that for the handle.

I have the J&M bushings & BMR 005 lock-out but I had an ASE certified mechanic perform the install. He told me of no problems so I believed my factory lineup was ok. Thank's for posting these trials & tribulations for the group.

The size you need is M14x2.0

Due to the cost of some of these pieces (taps and dies) I usually tell people to go to harbor freight and get their metric tap and die kit. Its extensive and comes with a ton of pieces, for about $80. Even if the M14x2.0 piece gets ruined after using it, that kit is a lot more value than the price of the single piece from some places. I acquired the harbor freight kit and have used the M14x2.0 piece about 5 times and it's as good as new still. I put a little bit of grease on it when I use it....then brake clean the threads before installing the bolts.

So are you saying that cross threading is common on these installs?

Me?

Nope. I have dealt with it a few times with my customers, and friends. But I wouldnt say its common out of the thousands we ship.

I will say, it is almost always unavoidable.
