This thread has been very helpful to me and I appreciate everyone for their time. I think the more I read some of the posts the more I realize that subconsciously I have a problem with mustang's size. I think deep inside, I need a small, nimble, tossable car.

You can certainly make a long and heavy car handle great. My M5 weighs 4400 lbs. Its about an inch or two longer than mustang and same width. It goes and goes and goes, it is so fast, so much torque and in public roads it handles so well. So then why do I need another car? (this is where my subconscious theory kicks in) because my M5 with its 190 inch length and 74 inch is not fun! Its too big. I want a car like GT3 unfortunately I cannot afford one for 130-140k now. So then all this "affordable" sports car search began and brought me here. But in reality, mustang will not make me happy I think, because its still a huge car that goes fast. I also have no resonators on my M5 and have eisenmann race exhaust. My car sounds louder than a regular base 350. But yet subconsciously I am not happy with it.

I think I need to either save some money and wait a bit and get a GT3 or maybe look into a e46 or e36. E92 can be made lighter, and the reason I prefer it is because 8400 rpm redline. But i am in a dilemma now. Not sure what to do.

Someone asked me before what is the purpose of this car:

- 60-70% canyon/country road driving
- 30% tracking for someone new who is learning
- It will be a second, toy/fun car.

I am not looking for a completely stripped bare metal race build. I need something that is more liveable but much more aggressive than a base stock car. GT3 is the only car in its stock form I would be happy with.

forgot to add the steering is not on the same level, the M3's 12.5:1 hydraulic setup is just a dream on track. also it is specific tuned to the M3.

meanwhile the GT350's 16.5:1 steering is a direct port of a 22k v6 s550. it is okay for an EPS, but believe me its no hydraulic

In plain english, what does that mean? Also what is lock to lock ratio of mustang? My m5 and the old e90 m3 both had the ridiculously inconvinient (for a good reason) 2.2 turns. Makes it very difficult to maneuver but i guess you win at the track.

Al, if anyone could make that happen that would be you especially with your 2015 Track Pack car with Cup 2 tires against a base 920A R model.

I certainly agree that the Cup 2 tires would narrow the gap but suggest that the R model just has too many differences compared to the Track Pack cars even with providing the Track Pack car with better tires.

With the R model having lighter and wider wheels front and back along with a 25% stiffer spring rate than the Track Pack cars it would be difficult for the Track Pack car to stay close especially on a course with a lot of tight turns.

Aside from the lighter/wider wheels the R model (base 920A) saves weight in other areas as well deleting such items as resonators, tire inflation kit, floor mats, no back seat, A/C, radio, sync, rear camera, trunk carpet and carpet underlay which all add up over the course of a long run.

Having said that it would be very interesting to see the actual results and hope that you or one of you other racing buddies could pull that off for all of us GT350/GT350R enthusiasts!

PS: I hope that you are enjoying your new GT4 and that you are able to get some seat time in it?

Interesting about the tire inflation kit...noticed my R came with one...but I also have the electronics package...

I've owned both cars. The GT350 is on a whole 'nother level. Yah the S65 is a nice engine, but its surrounded by a pile of shit. Put a S65 in a e36 m3 that is track prepped ... now we are talking.

Youd be shocked the M3 coupe vs GT350 dimensions

M3: 182″ L x 71″ W x 56″ H
350 188.3" x 75.4" W x 54.4" H

You're talking literally under 4.5 inches each length and width (which you WANT more width and wider track) and the 350 is shorter.

You wouldn't think it looking at them, but they're basically the exact same size car. So toss the E92 is smaller and more nimble out the door.

You're talking a nearly identical dimension and weight (rough both to 3600 pounds) car.

Yes, the base R's don't come that way.

Have you had a chance to put any miles on your R model and what do you think of it so far?

Also, did Birchwood remember to take out the shipping blocks that sit in the front springs and on the rear shocks?

What a great car you have and I can't wait to see it down the road!

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Its 181.5 inches vs 188.4 inches, thats more like 7 inches instead of 4.5? Thats 15cm. Also 4 inches width is quite substantial.

Lastly, track pack gt350 is 3780 lbs. i have showed a number of links now that a base m3 with half a tank of gas and cf roof and manual transmission weighs 3550lbs. That weight can go down to 3400 lbs without spending crazy money, so now your weight difference is 400 lbs, length of 7 inches and width of 4 inches. Are you saying that is not substantial?

I am sure an E30 M3 weighing 2750 lbs and having 250hp will be much more tosseable and fun than my lightweight 3400 lbs m3 which will be more fun than
Gt350.

So, e30 > e36 > e92 > gt350 (fun factor wise), even though power wise and sheer speed wise the equation is reverse.

Weight > power
Size > power

No?

You need to drive these cars and stop using metrics like 7 inches of width.

Comparing specs is one thing but you're going overboard. And this is coming from someone who is constantly criticized for "bench racing". How many days at the track have you done?

Steering feel/feedback. The car's weight is similar to the GT350, but it felt like a pig. Electronic gizmos (no oil dipstick??). Constantly had issues with my battery/Idrive system. Stock brakes/suspension nothing special. Doesn't come close to the grip of GT350 unless widebody it.

Car lacked all soul and character found in previous models. I had 2 e36 m3s and 1 e46 m3 and while it was faster, it wasn't nearly as enjoyable to drive.

Really the only thing I liked was the engine.

I was asking a question thats all. I said is the differences I pointed negligible? If I had experience driving these cars or if they were available here, I wouldnt be asking for your or other people's opinion here:)

Why is this clown even in a Mustang forum...? I'm just gonna axe this.

:dnftt:
Uh? Clown? I asked a question and actually got very valuable input from a number of people.
