This is how I rate the mustang
gt premium>ecoboost premium>base gt>base ecoboost>base v6.
I'd rate gt premium > base gt > eb premium > base eb > base V6.

But then, premium features are pretty much irrelevant to me anyway.

I actually don't think that at all. I admire most mustangs. Really the days of v6 being looked down on are gone. I could understand back in the day when the 6 was 200hp or less. But now they're over 300 horses and pretty damn quick. If I was to do it over again I'd consider a base v6 just due to the bang for the buck factor. Not a base gt. I'm confident in who I am and really couldn't care less what someone thinks of my premium ecoboost. Hopefully my rear end is all nice and cool from my cooled seats so the haters don't scorch their lips on my butt.
I loved my V6, and didn't really worry that anyone knew it wasn't a GT. But in my head I knew the GT was the beast and I had the beast's younger brother. I am a man wracked with self-doubt, after all.

I'm 6'4" and 230 and even the base seats are too narrow for me. Based on other responses I guess it depends a lot on your body shape.

Ok so I'm ready to pull the trigger on an ecoboost mustang but I have some questions before I do and you guys seem to be the best bunch to help so here goes....

1. I'm a curvy guy (lol) 6' 350 and I recently test drove one and though it wasn't too bad I was wondering if recaro seats would be better for headroom since they seem a little lower than factory seats

2. I've been a v8 guy my whole life but I always loved the oddballs i.e. Grand National and the 89 turbo Trans am (had one) and for some reason these ecoboost cars seem to remind me of them they're not the fastest cars by any means but they piss off the purists and shake up the enthusiasts...so my question is will this car be fun to drive like stop light to stop light fun or will it be boring...money wasnt an object here before someone chimes in and says buy a gt if I wanted to go that route I could've picked up a Camaro or challenger or gt but like I said i love the oddball

Thanks in advance guys
V8 your whole life...Have you test drove the 15 GT or just the EB? Also, I'd bring a friend to give you a second opinion. And, with an additional friend you'll see how the car performance feels when it's weighed down a bit.

I get the oddball bit but you can accomplish that with a pink paintjob and purple wheels...Shoot if you are looking to just piss off the purist...do this

...one last thing to point out.

The Buick Grand National and Turbo TransAM was basically a limited run of cars. The Ecoboost is not in the same and will likely be the top selling model in time if not already.

I don't think Ecoboost fits the same category is all.

I've got the EB/prem/auto and am very comfortable with the standard seats (270 lbs)...they are very adjustable (the Recaros are not). As for engine....well I tested the Coyote against the EB (already had a 2011/6). The Coyote is THE engine to get for any kind of racing...no need to elaborate! However, for car trips around N. America, the excellent gas mileage of the EB (getting avg 34MPG on hwy) is not a small thing, especially when you occasionally want that power, it's right there starting at the hwy cruising RPM (2000). It definitely doesn't have the top end of the 8 (RPM over 5500 loses power without a tune), but I don't drag race. Hope this helps you decide.

I can see that. I do put a pretty big emphasis on the premium features though. They are just so nice. Really makes my ecoboost feel like an European luxury car. Most compliments I've had from passengers involved how nice the interior was. In a perfect world I'd dropped 40k+ on a gt premium. I specifically didn't drive the gt because really my ecoboost premium was more than I wanted to spend. I had already decided the premium was what I wanted. No way was I comfortable with a premium gt. Maybe someday down the road. I'd qualify for one easily and make the payment easy enough but that doesn't mean I'd feel comfortable at that payment. Your base gt is awesome and I can see someone buying a base gt over a premium ecoboost. I can also make the argument for the premium ecoboost over a base gt too.

Quite so. All depends on your priorities. It helps that my wife's car is a loaded VW Sportwagen with pretty much every option imaginable. That *is* a luxury car, for all intents and purposes. So my Mustang is not the long trip comfort car.

And I'm pretty strange. I wouldn't say I prefer base over premium, but a lot of the base features do suit me better. For example, I hate touchscreen stereos and automatic/computerized climate control. I prefer old fashioned knobs and buttons. Also, the base model has less speakers. This makes it easier (and less expensive) for me to replace them with something better (I'm rarely satisfied with stock speakers in any form).

So a lot of the premium features are drags to me. I would have preferred if Ford had a standalone leather option, though. I do prefer that over cloth. And I also wish they could have given the base model the pretty pilot switches.

Well I can see we have a very divided crowd lol in my intro I listed all the cars I had most were third generation irocs and Trans am including the infamous 89 turbo Trans am I also had an o7 mustang gt and a 02 ws6 and a charger rt never had a car over 400 hp because let's be honest when will most of us use it lol so for me the ecoboost made sense because I was more than satisfied with my 89 tta and that was a mid 13 as well as my ws6 and 07 gt car just like the ecoboost they all were mid 13 cars

And dystopic I'm surprised at your switch I'll be honest your videos on YouTube are what made me shoot for the ecoboost you praised that car so much lol

Those weren't my videos. You're thinking of S550stang. He is here in the forums too, though. The EcoBoost is a good car man... But buy what you really want. If that's the boosted 2.3, go for it. If it isn't, go for what is.

What's funny is I have always been a Ford guy, but had a friend with a turbo Buick that talked me into buying one. Annnnnd, that sent me down the road to the dark side...lol. The car I got my S/N from was my baby....87 GN....24K original miles, full documentation....and ran low 11's in the 1/4...lol. I had all the OEM parts to put her back factory stock, right down to the original Eagle GT tires/rims. I want another one, but buying a house will come first...gotta have a shop to eventually store my toys..lol.

Oh, and to totally derail this thread..LOL..this was EVILGN

Hi !
First, like you, I am old school V8 in my car hobby specialty / classic cars with the exception of old English sports cars etc., and been around Mustangs
( owned 17 Ponys ) since they began..... ALL V8s- BUT, I agree re. cars like GNs- been there as well- Super Ride !...

Having said all that, 2 mos ago I traded my 2012 Coyote 5.0 with only 2,500 MILES for an EcoBoost & I am VERY HAPPY with my decision ( as is my sidekick passenger bride who has been there since my first new Mustang in '69 !! :headbang:

As one of my Mustang buddies says, however, "There is no replacement for displacement", BUT, the All New Mustang EcoBoost is DEFINITELY A FUN DRIVE !

And, I have heard other old 8 banger guys express the same sentiment.

At the risk of raising eyebrows among GT folk- again, I AM one... I see the EcoBoost Mustang as Ford's future.

( SIDE NTE: /at an All Ford Car Show Saturday, I had more people taking pictures of and asking about my new Eco than I had with my limited production 2001 BULLITT - which had only 1,000 miles at 10 yrs old, and was 100% Original- even the battery. )

I can not address the seat issue except to say that other Eco owners have compared the factory standard seats to the Recaro, and found the stock seats to be as or more supportive and comfortable.

I will only add that I feel simply that the EcoBoost is a car will actually drive more and, therefore, get more pleasure from.

"There's no replacement for displacement"

I'd say the grand national and gnx pretty much killed that theory lol

Put same boost on more displacement and those fell easily. You're theory is void. The rule still stands.
