Re-look at the Eco-Boost

I love this... such a typical thread here... If I got this right, I made the best decision buying my Mustang GT because it gets better gas milage than Truck with an ecoboost?

I hope this isn't turning into another ecoboost vs GT thread and if it is, it gets squashed. It's really a stupid arguement, buy the car that suits your needs. For some, the ecoboost is the correct car, for others, it's the GT and for those that can't figure it out, there's the V6 (j/k ;) ). Oh wait, they're gone. There's no need to get all defensive and try to defend your selection when someone else's selection was made with a different set of criteria and was hopefully the better choice for them.

Also, the statement above is just flat out wrong. I NEVER have anyone ask me why I didn't get a GT. I sure don't feel inadequate either. Several women know that. If you think the size of your engine in your car dictates how big your pecker is, you either have a small pecker and need to compensate somehow, or the only intimate relationship you've ever been in was with your car. Feel free to stick it in your tail pipe with the engine on. Feel how adequate you are now.

The question I get the most is, is your Mustang an automatic or a manual. After I say it's a manual, people hi-five, shake my hand, etc to say that a sports car should be driven with a manual.

And I never bashed the 2.3 or 3.7. Just said they are totally different cars than an FR-S. Big american muscle vs. tiny foreign sporty car. Get over yourself. Should have bought the GT. Then you wouldn't be so defensive. lol

Back to the topic, but how did they find prices that cheap for the ecoboost? Look all over the SW and couldn't find anything close to that price. Killer deal if I can find it. Would even trade in my SO's daily driver for that price.

Your post did not come off as sarcastic, despite the "lol" (use /s if you want to be clear). And yes, you definitely did bash the 2.3 and 3.7 cars (and their owners) at least tangentially with your insecure statements. Almost none of the EB owners on here have any qualms with the 5.0 guys, so I still don't understand why a small handful of you guys feel the need to take potshots at us EBs.

The 2.3 and 3.7 are better value in terms of power, but you will always get the "why didn't you get a GT" question and feel inadequate when the 5.0 pulls up next to you. Luckily with the 5.0 there aren't that many 350s to make you feel like a tiny man. lol

To reinforce what Ebm said, I have also never been asked "why didn't you get a GT", nor have I felt inadequate when a 5.0 (or anything else) pulls up beside me. I have had quite a few people compliment me on my car out of the blue, which has never happened before.

Back to the topic, I also test drove an FR-S and it was a neat car but I couldn't justify paying that much for one, especially when you consider that (at the time) it was branded as a Scion and you couldn't haggle the price down.

The car looked great (on the outside) and it certainly handled better than any car I've driven, but the lack of power, ugly (IMO) interior and lack of features was too big of a turn-off. At least it looks like they've added a few features on the refreshed and rebranded 86. Now if they could just give it some more oomph. It doesn't need to have 300 hp. But really, the 205 hp isn't the problem, it's the abysmal 151 lb-ft of torque (and someone told me the torque curve goes all the way down to about 130 at some point). If they can't get the power and torque upped a bit more than it really should be priced a bit more competitively. Oh well, I already made my choice and I'm happy with it.

The biggest problem with that 2.0 boxer engine is the torque dip from 4000-4500rpm. Need to keep it above 5000rpm to make it responsive. But still a fun car. I think it is more in the Miata category than a car as big as the mustang.

Agreed. I could see myself buying one used a few years down the line. I'm sure it would make an amazing track car.

The statements were unneeded but how is that wrong when there is a V6 justication thread bashing the GT and people are cheering it on and defending it. Double standards. I don't see you having an issue with that.

Yeah for the money both the V6 and eco cars are solid value for what you get. Anything in the similar power range will be more (maybe the most comparable would be the Camaros) but they are going to be a bit higher in costs. Used cars would yield even better deals considering a new econobox is inching up there to the high tens and low twentys with options.

The gf has a 1.6 ecoboost Escape. I really enjoy that car. Runs well, mpg isn't bad (its AWD) and comfortable to drive. I have told her many times once it gets paid off I will keep it for a daily driver and she can get something else.

I looked into the EB mustang, but my biggest drawback was having to mod it to get similar HP to the GT. I have grown tired of modding cars and would rather do an exhaust and tune and be satisfied, which the GT allows. No bash on the EB from me, just not what I was interested in at this point in my life.

Between the summer of 15 and July of 16, my sports car decision time, a BRZ/FRS was never on the table. Though I did want an all around sports car, I also wanted good raw power and the BRZ/FRS just doesn't have it. If they had a factory turbo and close to STI power, with their light weight I would have considered it. To me an EB is in the same boat, yes, lots more power than a BRZ/FRS, but weight. GT obviously has weight too, but has power and then some to compensate.

This ^ After having two GT Mustang's prior, I don't know if I got another one without a V-8 but that is a hell of a deal. That would make for a killer daily driver...
