As some may know, I work for a Ford dealership in the Indy area. I got my Mustang there and I went through the same process before I bought mine.
Today I did a "pre-delivery inspection" (PDI) on an Eco-Boost. The color was "Guard." In my opinion, it is a very ugly color. However, not bad on the mustang. From the outside, it seems like it sits a little lower than the GT. Even sitting in the car, it seems like your even sitting lower in the car. I kinda like it. The inside is just the same as my GT, only an automatic. Its just as comfortable as the GT also. Start up? Is it running?! Now, I thought my GT was quiet! I understand that its only a 4 cyl. and maybe I'm just use to hearing my GT. I just sounds weak. Now the drive... Though it is boasted that the Eco Boost has more power than the 4.6, the power is not there at all... If your looking to get an Eco Boost and making the older s197 look bad... Dont hold your breath.

All in all, I would save some money and get the GT. Thats just my .02. Again, I have a GT and I may hold these cars to a higher standard. Thanks for reading

Guard is not for everyone, that's for sure. That's one of the reasons I ordered it.

Yeah, stock the ecoboost is about just as quick as the 3v 4.6L.

I'm buying one for the forged internals and cast block. A turbo swap will put it near the GT.

But it will still lack a 90 degree crankshaft rotation.

So when you took this pre-inspection for a drive, you put it to full power through all the gears , top speed over a distance to know for sure that it wont beat a v6 or an older s197 ? Or did you race one side by side? Im extremely curious how on a pre inspection from a dealership you were able to determine this?

I've raced my '07 GT, and after many attempts, finally got it into the 13's (13.98). Got it to 13.6 with a tune and CAI. From what I've seen from stock 4.6 GT's at the strip, they were about the same. Most magazines at the time had them running 13.8-13.9.

Many magazine tests have the EB automatic running 13.9.

I can't have faith in your assessment.

BTW, I will be running my EB at the track come spring, so I should have a good comparison at the time ( same track, same driver ).

If the car really felt that sluggish it may have been in transport mode still.

As part of the pdi requirements, I am suppose to make sure it shifts smoothly through all the gears. I am limited to the amount of miles I am aloud to put on them, as you would expect. That being said, I do do my best to make everything work, without beating on a new car, while trying to get the best info as possible. So to answer your question, I'm goin from the seat of my pants here.... I do believe that's why I'm having such a hard time liking it. Trust me, if I could spend more than 10 or 15 minutes driving it, I would.

I bought an Ecoboost last week. Before I bought it I was skeptical on the power. My trade was an '05 GT. My salesman was smart, we went out about 10-15 minutes with it in normal mode, felt good, but not too impressive. Then he said turn around and I'm going to put it in sport mode, then you nail it. I did, and I was impressed. That was after driving my GT over an hour to look at the car. They had a base GT that was cheaper than my EB that I drove also. It was nice, but with the options of the EB and the impressive HP I went with the EB obviously. How anyone can say the EB is weak I don't understand!!!

Some athletes are just "sneaky-quick"...... Let's hope the EB is the same.....
