You don't know people who think theirs don't stink? Maybe all dogs have that gene.One of life's enduring mysteries is why dogs, with their incredible sense of smell, choose to sleep with their nose firmly planted up their own ass.
But actually, a part of the puzzle may be related to an animal's hierarchy of senses.
Vision is most important to humans and our reactions to colors is very subdued. We might like or dislike some color but its not a very intense reaction. But we react more strongly to smells and tastes. For dogs, smell is the most important sense, so whatever evolutionary reasons make us more ambivalent to colors might makes dogs more ambivalent to smells. So, basically, butts don't stink.
