My car is torn apart, doing a turbo install. I need to wire my radiator fan and eliminate the condenser fan. With the car torn apart I cannot figure out which fan is which. Any ideas if the driver side or passenger side fan is the radiator fan? I want to use the factory plug but need to eliminate 2 wires from it and do not want to eliminate the wrong 2.

It’s not a 1990 Miata. You just have two engine cooling fans controlled by the computer.

hmmmm. Lol

So they both engage at the same time based on coolant temp? I'd think one would kick on with the AC or both kicked on at higher temps. So you're saying one isn't a primary fan? Thanks for clearing up the Miata confusion and for letting me know the computer controls the fan. It's guys like you that make this place awesome.

Was just curious which fans kicked on when the car got hot. Drivers, Passenger or both.
Well only one runs when it gets hot and the 2nd one runs only when the AC is on. Tomorrow I will check for you and post here

Thank you! Don't want to cut the wrong wires. I'll only be using 1 fan.

The two most important modes are both fans in series (~1/2 speed) and both fans in parallel (full speed). Removing one fan is a flawed idea.

My car has no AC and only one fan due to the turbo location. I wasn't taking a poll, so if you've got no valuable input, move along.

Okay so when I just had the motor on only the fan on the right would run. It will be on your right when facing the engine bay. The left fan which is the lower fan only turned on when I turned on the AC. That fan is under the coolant tank.

Abit long reply, but I was doing same thing ( going from 2 -> 1 fan ). Here is electrical circuit. So its either one of them working, or 2 at the same time, but in 2-fan mode first fan gets ground in series through second fan. To fix that, first FAN should have permanent ground as its controlled with 12v side.

That's not how the ECU actually actuates them.

The norm is that for low speed operation it's both of them at low speed (series), high speed is both them at high speed (parallel).

They are arranged this way for simplicity of operation, fault tolerance and lower noise.

You are right. I've looked again at the schematics, They achievie switching between series and parallel mode with FC2 relay, which makes fans run faster/slower
