Are radar detectors dated due to all the other technologies we have?
False alerts due to alot more things having RF?
With apps such as Waze, google maps that allow drivers to point out where potential hazards are. Is buying a detector worth the money or just another electronic device that's not needed.

Yes they are worth the money. My escort has saved me from quite a few tickets. It has GPS built in so after you use it a while it stores the alarm systems and other things that set them off and it won’t go off. Best to use both Waze and a good radar detector

All the above Ben! I have an Escort Max C in all of my vehicles and they have definitely saved my bacon on a few occasions. I do like the Waze app and use it religiously when I am driving...even when it's around town.

I run a uniden r1 with waze app also going. Definately works. Waze depends on other waze users and with instant on radars now you need traffic ahead. If you are in rural areas with no traffic you need to not depend on them much

I got a huge ticket while running Waze. Waze does nothing if the LEO is moving, or no one has alerted it yet.

There is a thread on radar detectors in here somewhere. And it seems quite a few folks are getting false alerts with cars that have BLIS (Blind spot information system). Interesting to here more input on this.

I get false alerts with from Honda’s and Buick’s with BLIS but I’m usually within 30 ft of them. Close enough I can see the mirror light come on that illuminates to show a vehicle is beside them. On my unidentifiable there are two mute buttons that will mute that specific alert. Very handy and I don’t think false Alarms are an annoyance since it is very limited in range

Yes no way would I depend on other people alone without a radar. It’s hard enough to depend on my employees and hell I write them a check every week much less someone I don’t know

I like Valentine.it gives you alerts from in front and back.

Just keep in mind vehicles with adaptive cruise control can set off your radar detector. The more civilization you live in, the more false positives you will receive. But there is value to a radar detector if you are going to be cruising at speeds that would require a speeding ticket if caught by a speed detection device.

Agree. I usually just sit in the right lane and when a car zooms past me in the left that has one on their dash. I just tag along. Let them be the rabbit.

I use Escort Max (version 1) with Waze. The latest firmware update seems to do an okay job of filtering BSM.

Yea I dont rely just on Waze or maps. Just curious on technology on the law side has changed or made detectors obsolete

Regardless of the detector brand or how “top of the line” it may be, nothing can beat the Police “instant on”... once you’ve been tagged, you’re done and that detector isn’t worth diddly.
