Has anyone dynoed the Magnaflow/Borla/Jones resonator vs a regular X pipe?

Would suck to put headers on and then lose power by quieting it back down.

I’ll definitely do some further looking into it

I have stainless power headers with a magnaflow resonated x pipe and Steeda axleback Not sure the part #. It’s still loud as hell, my wife can hear me come home from down the street with me driving normally. Ran it with just headers and h pipe to Steeda mufflers for awhile and I didn’t like it. Didn’t sound good at all. Everybody always says that headers have diminishing returns but I didn’t care. Car feels fast as hell and with E85 and an M6 I can outpace other cars fairly easily. It’s about what’s worth it to you. Would I do it on a daily? Probably not but a fun car that gets driven every once in awhile? Absolutely. I also do all my work myself so that saves me a ton of install $$$

It’s interesting how some mid pipe and muffler setups can make a car really quiet while others can be really loud. Which magnaflow X pipe? And I’m assuming the headers are catless? Do you have a video youd be able to send me?

The jones muffler/resonator is a straight through X inside it. It should not make anymore restriction than a true X pipe.

Pipes brand mufflers are where your problem lies. They have to be one of the loudest exhaust out there for these cars. I had them on for about 2 weeks. Pretty much gave them away. I do like loud, but that brand is too loud & in bad taste. Get some touring mufflers & you'll be fine even after you get headers.

Ok…. Explain how it make sense that one with a performance car modifies the exhaust so it’s more free flowing, louder, and sounds better - but then wants to add back components to choke it and make it quieter to near stock levels….

LMAO 🤣

Waste of time and $$$ - either go all in or just leave the exhaust stock if a modified exhaust bothers your ears… and if you’re worried about it bothering other people’s ears, drive by them faster so they won’t hear you as long. :)

Go headers and go loud.

My both my 94 and 93 Mustang 5.0’s have LT’s with aftermarket 2.5” exhaust - they both are loud at idle, loud when driving through the gears or when cruising, and very loud at WOT…. It sounds great and I could care less who thinks otherwise. All of my 5.0 Mustangs have always been loud…. IMO, if it’s too loud when you’re next to me on a road or highway, use your go pedal or brake pedal to distance yourself….

Plus for those in HOA developments or communities - you know where you’re living, you know your bylaws, you know your bitchy neighbors, so if you want loud and have to stuff potatoes or pool noodles into your exhaust tails before you start it every morning, who’s fault is that…
Doesn't always sound better. I currently have MBRP LTH, highflow cats, and the mbrp street mufflers. Sounds like chewbacca trying to take a massive shit.

This car makes over 800rwhp with a magnaflow 12469 and 2 rear mufflers and sounds way better.

I'm adding the 12469 this week and then heading to the dyno. See how much it drops, if anything. The 12469 is a 3" perforated xpipe inside. Currently makes around 900

That sounds perfect to me. At 800whp, I'm assuming catless.
If it's not to late, can you take a photo pointing down through the chamber of that magnaflow 12469 before installation? On the Magnaflow website, the cross-section photos of the 12469 show more of a double-Y but the 2.5" 12468 shows a true X. No idea how accurate the photos are.

Any idea which rear mufflers they're running?

Stainless works long tube headers, no cats, 3” Magnaflow muffler, 3” Stainless Works exhaust with 3” Stainless Works Legend mufflers

My car picked up over 4mph in the 1/4 with just headers, that’s averaging 40rwhp in the upper rpm’s gained.

It’s A LOT for a few grand…

I used to have Borla S type with catted LTH but it is too loud and raspy. Then I tried H pipe with two small resonators on it but still raspy when engine under load. Then I switched to Borla resonator to touring systems but the car sounds too quiet. Now I put resonated H pipe back and put two Corsa pro series packed resonator before mufflers. The car sounds excellent, deep like thunder at idle and cruising and louder than any normal catback systems at WOT. With 0 drone and no raspy at all.

It was the magnaflow Tru-X resonated x pipe. Only 2.5” I think? The headers are catted, didn’t want to deal with too terrible a smell. I’d love to send a video but I’m actually attempting to track down a misfire issue I’m having right now otherwise I would.
