Quick San Francisco trip

My son and I made a weekend trip and were 30 miles from SF. He'd never been there so we went over Sunday morning for a couple of hours. The Bullitt had never been there either. Which meant it needed to go to Taylor Street.

For those that don't know, that's the road used in the chase scene where the cars go airborne. This is heading north on Taylor Street just past Vallejo where the first jump occurred.

The pictures were quick as I couldn't sit in the road too long. Holy crap - that's steep! You wouldn't need to be going fast to get the car in the air. I'm in the car and can't see the road at all.

This one gives a little better idea as you can barely see the top of the stop sign in the above picture.

Bullitt movie locations

It was fun driving around SF in the Bullitt. Lots of people gawking at the car (but that can happen anywhere). Pulling up to a light near Fisherman's Wharf a young boy and his dad were looking at the car. Dad yelled "is that factory?" First time I've been asked that.

The utility poles are gone. Replaced with high intensity streetlights.

Wife and I visited last summer and took a bus tour that dropped us off on the backside of Lombard Street so we walked all the way up to see how steep it was, holy crap is it curvy! We could see fisherman‘s wharf from there, so figured what the hell, we did the hard part, and walked down the front side to the wharf. Looked a lot closer from the top of the hill LOL!

That's really cool that you and your son got to do that.

Last time I was in SF it was for business and I was with a coworker who had never been. He really just wanted to drive across the Golden Gate bridge, but I made him detour through this area as well.

He was like "I've seen this before."
Me: "Yeah, in the movie Bullitt."
Him: "Bad ass! I get to drive the same streets! Let's recreate the chase scene! Wonder if I could lose 5 hubcaps?"
Me: "Yeah, no, let's not..."

Yeah - I noticed they were gone too when I looked at the pics. The trees have grown a lot too.

We drove down Lombard Street. My son couldn't believe that road - or that people live there.
I walked up it once - about thirty years ago.

Fisherman's Wharf looks a lot closer when you're hundreds of feet above it!

Awesome! Enjoy the city, it’s obviously not perfect but it’s home to many of us.

Hit “4 corners”/Alice’s down by Woodside. Hour south of SF, awesome drive via the 1/84. Or 280 -> 92 -> skyline. Plenty of automotive enthusiasts congregate there.

I don't mind visiting there. Great skiing around Tahoe and will do some biking there this weekend.

Great thing about where I live. I can enjoy the nice stuff CA has to offer without having to deal with the taxes.
