Here in NC, everyone is panic buying fuel. It's been this way 24/7 for well over a week now. I've managed to not put fuel in any of my cars and only a little in my bike but I run 93 in the Mustang and the bike. The place that has 93 is about to run out. The question is this...

Will I be alright if I use a full bottle of octane booster and 87? And do any of you have any recommendations for exact formulas, brands, etc?

If you're NOT going full throttle you can get by using 91 or 89 for just daily driving. the aggressive timing from the tune shouldn't really be an issue unless you got WOT. Even then your Knock sensors should dial it back. I'd rather run 89 or 91 with some booster than 87 with more booster.

You’d need quite a lot of booster to get 87 to 93 on a full tank. I forget the ratio but it takes a lot of booster to get that high of octane for that many gallons.

Yea, new vehicles can run on lower grade octane with no problems. The PCM logic compensates for octane levels based on a variety of live data streams and sensors throughout the drivetrain.

Also, don't get hung up on all of that "OMG, there's not going to be any fuel due to a hacker".... it's been resolved; the stupid Fuel Company paid millions in ransom and is back online. Once the truckers get back on the roads to distribute, it's going to be a has been like the TP "shortage". TP factories didn't close down,, the shortage was created by the social media sites and news stations inducing such fear tactics and BS onto the Public that was creating overwhelming anxiety that "OMG, there won't be any more TP evaaaaar"......

The other thing too is - every time around this time of year, fuel prices spike due to summer seasonal travel. So for the media to hype of the fact that fuel prices are increasing Wiley due to the hack is another BS line. Sure, they may have spiked for a few days or a week due to supply/demand of the hack caused, but guess what - fuel plants aren't stopping production or closing shop and the costs per gallon were already spiking due to the normalcy of the season... that's a fact.

What makes me laugh is every time fuel prices go up per gallon - no one complains about paying close to $4-$5 per gallon for MILK.... why is that? Because no one buys 16+ gallons of milk in a single shopping instance... LMFAO....

Jesus....

The OP has a 93 octane tune folks.

And OP, that's something you might want to add into your question.

Yes, adding octane booster should be fine.

If you have an aftermarket tune running less than the octane the tune is for won't work like it does on the stock tune. If it's a 93 tune, 93 octane at minimum is required.

Don't run your car with an aftermarket tune using fuel with less of an octane rating than the tune is for unless your adding octane boost to get it to the required octane level the tune is coded for.

I should've been a little more clear. If I absolutely had to do this, I was going to flash back to a stock tune, but I ended up finding a pump right near where I work that had 93 so I topped it off. I've never put 87 in this car but I've heard other people do. I know in my 86, the CR was 12.5:1 so the thresh hold was too small for you to run 87. If you did, it would almost immediately start knocking. A friend of mine learned that the hard way.

Most octane booster have a chart that will tell you how many ounces of booster you’d need per octane point. Wonder if Biden is rethinking his pipeline stance now?
Nawwwwwww.

I think assuming he thinks about anything at all is giving him too much credit. I imagine he's like Pinocchio before he became real...attached to a bunch of strings..
