I bought a project to work on. It was hit hard on driver side front. Nothing got into the frame only the front wheel suspension has been affected. I know that the lower control arm is broke and the rack is broke. I haven’t had time to get it up on my rack But it’s losing oil on that same side very quickly. With all the panels on I cannot see but I’m curious what I’m gonna find. Any guesses. I should have the car up on a rack next week but I’m wondering where might be coming from. Oil lines ? Does the rack use motor oil. I wouldn’t think so?

Oil cooler and oil filter are right in that area.

Steering rack doesn’t use any fluid, it all electronic with internal circuit board, gears and belt. See this thread for everything EPAS related:

Since you mention it was a hard hit, if you’re having difficulties getting it started you may want this thread:

As far as your oil leak issues, could be a number of things:
How hard a hit, could be cracked timing cover, broken crank snout, or as bad as a cracked block.

Oil cooler and or lines as mentioned above.

Oil sensor above oil filter broken.

Busted oil filter (if not replaced)

Damaged valve covers

Cracked or damaged transmission (fluid should normally be red though)

I hope it works out well for you. Got any pics of the car?

The 2018+ GT have composite oil pans, the 2015-17 are metal pans.

I think the oil filter is the likely culprit. If it was hit hard enough to break the control arm, the filter could have been punctured or the cooler adapter cracked.

Oops…. Edited out, forgot about the oil pan changes Ford did for the 2018+….

Frame rail is straight
I would never, ever assume that. It has to get measured on a laser frame machine *before* any re-assembly begins. If it's off by 1/4 inch none of the panels will align.

What frame are you talking about on a unibody?
Just because a unibody doesn't have a frame that's separate from the body doesn't mean it has no frame. That's old man talk right there. There are obvious frame rails on the front of the car. I don't know how more clear it can be.
