Just as the tittle says. What are the two sensors on each side of the core support? I recently bought a FPRS Track Attack car and they are both unplugged. I suspect they are the reason for my air bag light. I didn't want to just plug them back in without knowing what they are. I never noticed them on my other 350.

They’re crash sensors, and you’re correct…. They’re almost certainly part of the reason for your airbag light. If I remember correctly, the steering wheel airbag has also been unplugged on those cars, but I’m not 100% sure about that. If you plug the crash sensors back in and still have an airbag light, you may want to call fprs and ask them about the steering wheel airbag.

Mine has the same disconnected sensors.

A few years ago, I got a picture from a friend who owns my old Ex-Bondurant school car showing the front airbags deployed and deflated. All he said was "look what happened." I was worried that he stuffed it into the wall, but turns out it was a combination of very high heat (over 100 degrees that day) and he was really riding the rumble strip curbing...... and the airbags both just popped on him at the exit of a turn.

Knowing that he and the car were both okay, my response was "well, that answers the question of whether the Bondurant guys disconnected / removed the airbags."

I was wondering the same thing about the FPRS cars - I plan on leaving mine disconnected and will try to disable the light on the dash, instead. My guess is that (and a few other factors such as the existence of the rollbar, the aftermarket harnesses, and such) is a big reason for the sentence on the bill of sale that says the buyer understands the car is being sold for off-highway use only.

Mine were also disconnected and when I plugged them back in the light on the dash remains illuminated, so my guess is there is still something else unplugged. I would like to reactivate mine so that they work for the rare occasion that the car is driven on the street. I plan on calling Justin at FPRS.

I talked to my old contact in maintenance at FPRS, who left 6 months ago. He said the steering wheel airbags are disconnected and they’re fairly easy to reconnect.

He said the airbags were disabled because they’re not really needed, since drivers are strapped in with a harness and wouldn’t benefit from the airbags being deployed.

Here is a video that may help:

If the airbag light is still on after the steering wheel connections are re-attached, there are also multiple sensors on each side for the side air bags.

I don't know if this will help any, but it's the only airbag mapping diagnosis I have from a Ford Shop manual - I think it was 2017 S550. The airbag system has not changed drastically from 2015-current.

The S550 airbag system is very complex and any reset needs to be performed using the Ford IDS system. I'm not sure if the SRS system can be reset using the Forscan device.

This is the other diagnostic info I had posted a while back for folks rebuilding salvage S550's with airbag or non-start issues. The info within may also be helpful.

Check these 2 areas for SRS issues, threads below for reference.

I mess with a lot of different types of vehicles in the body shop. Some require a scan tool to clear the airbag codes, some will just go off once they are plugged back in. You really need to disconnect the negative battery terminal before you mess with any airbag connection, otherwise it could trigger the bag to go off. Some steering wheels have a small access door on the bottom to get to the airbag wires and some you have to pop the bag off the wheel to get to the wires.
