I bought my second car with a manual trans for the purpose of teaching myself how to drive a manual. I think there far more important aspects of driving than knowing how to manually shift gears, like checking your blind spot and using turn signals.WOW.... Honestly, as a product, it is good they have information on proper use, but as a car, the driver should competently know how to drive a manual car before they receive their license allowing them to do so...

Here you get either a manual or automatic license. If you didn't pass your test in a manual, you don't get a manual license and can't legally drive one on the road. I just can't see the California Department of Motor Vehicles being that competent. Good for you all, Down Under!Here you get either a manual or automatic license. A common thing I have seen learners do is to panic when the car starts lurching due to too much clutch and too little throttle when taking off and mash the go pedal. That is something that being aware that there is a car right in front of you won't help. Also stalling whilst taking off and having the car behind you bang into you is something that knowing there is someone behind you won't help. Sure this is their fault, and having L plates helps others be aware that your driving might be erratic, but it still happens, and I imagine it would happen more-so without the L plates.
I guess the point I'm coming to is being able to make a decision without having the control to guarantee the execution of it is not much better than not making the decision.
