Ford does not offer any other tire on the PP2 package, yet.

Is the reason, that a tire change (same size), to allow good performance in the rain, over the std "slicks", degrades the on track performance down to about a PP1 level vehicle?

I see that a good number of owners here, have changed over to a more sane tire to DD on.

I was caught in a rainstorm on I90 last week that was an absolute deluge for 20 minutes along Lake Erie; you could barely see the taillights of the car ahead. Needless to say, this wet stuff happens.

So we should or should not expect a different "rain tire" option for PP2?
I intend to purchase a '19 PP2 vehicle, since I cannot find a '13 B302 for reasonable $$$$.

My '99 SVT Cobra Convertible will have to go. This vehicle was the one in the recent deluge/rainstorm on new Generals, and was quite fine in the soup.

Should not IMO. Have you ever seen Ford do it in the past ? You simply go and buy another set of wheels / tires and switch over.

My basic question was; do replacement tires (with tread), degrade the the PP2 option's handling on the street and track; an option that was specifically designed around those SC2 tires, for track use;( to beat the Camaro, and Car and Driver's testers).

Substituting road tires, would seem to mean, "yes", a decrease in performance on the track and street is to be expected, and a rougher street ride, compared to PP1, without the ultimate grip on either the street or track.

I get the idea of keeping the slicks for track use only, and using the substitutes for daily driving, and am willing to do just that.

Around here there are 4 used 2017 GT350's with 1500-2000 miles on them, that may need tires for Daily Driving use. Maybe the first owners were spooked in the rain?

I guess it devolves around the question..............without the SC2 tires, is the PP2 dead in the water, and just another ride?

Would you expect a GT350R to come with a street tire instead of a track tire? The PP2 is effectively a GT PP 'R'.

If you want a lesser tire, get a PP1, since thats basically what you're asking for if you want a PP2 with a street tire.

Would you you use all the available grip with PSC2s in turns driving on the street ? Would you use it with P4Ss ? Likely no to both if you're a reasonable person - therefore for the street it doesn't matter. Track - if you can use it's capabilities - of course it will make slower - how much vs. same size P4Ss - no clue but with average driver probably negligible.

And if you're worried about PSC2s - see NightmareMoon's advice.

Honestly I wouldn't bother with the PP2 if you're going to toss the tires. Very wide tires are never going to be great for a rainy climate regardless of what you put on there. The PP Level 1 has one of the best summer tires available for the rain as standard, and is no slouch.

Thank you, I believe that my question is answered.

I will skip the PP2, and get a PP1 package, as the most reasonable use of my $$$. I just want a good handling vehicle.
I held a SCCA Nat'l license, and have had enough track and race time in the past wearing the nomex, so this car will not be tracked.

Only thing to consider for PP1 vs PP2 is, if you opt Magneride on the PP1, Magneride is standard on the PP2. At invoice cost, you are looking at roughly $750 more fore PP2 vs PP1 with Magneride. For that $750, you get a much wider more aggressive wheel/tire option. In my case, I never drove on the SC2's. I sold them new and bought a summer performance tire staying 305 squared all around. That was about a $300 additional cost for me as I gave a fellow C6G member here a helluva deal on the SC2's for $800. But, I didn't have to go out and spend $2K to $3K on an aftermarket set of wheels/tires.

I also didn't care for the PP1 deck spoiler and also got the additional front spoiler. There are a few other things, but really not relevant if you don't plan to track the car. If you don't intend to get Magneride or an aftermarket wheel/tire setup, the PP1 is probably the better option. Throw in Magneride, and the aggressive stance of the PP2 wheels (and, I know some don't like that look), and at least for me, the decision to go PP2 was easy (not to mention that early PP2 orders also included free cloth Recaro upgrade). Of course, if the A10 is an option, that's not available w/ the PP2.

I will track my car occasionally, but just for fun. I know I've given up some with the UHP summer tires over the SC2's, but street driving will be 99% of my miles, so the tradeoff is worth it. Still, in sport mode, the feel is aggressive and fun to drive. In track mode, it's an absolute beast. I have a couple ramps near me that I can take at more than double the posted limit (80 on a 35, and 60 on a 25). I have not second guessed my decision to go PP2 at all. Just some food for thought from a very satisfied PP2 owner.

In my skidpad testing . . . (and I am no pro driver!) the 245 square tires are about .1G down from the 305s. Believe there is more to be had with the 305s?

Grassroots Motorsports just ran a test comparing tire from the different performance categories. R compound (40TW) verses Extreme Performance (200TW) verses Max Performance (300TW).

The Sport Comp 2's are probably more track oriented than Extreme Performance tires. Using Max Performance Summer tires as the base (MPS4), on a short autocross type course (40 something second lap) the Extreme Performance tires (GR Rivals) were worth 2 seconds, with (GR) R compounds being worth 3 seconds. Double that delta (at least) for the VIR Lightning Lap course (almost 3 minute lap).

PS - Did anyone else know that Michelin now owned Goodrich?

There is no point of buying PP2 if you do not intend to track the car. PP1 does everything on the street just as good.
