The Performance Package to me makes perfect sense. It was the only thing I refused to compromise on. Sure, you can purchase new brakes, new springs and struts, new wheels and tires, a strut tower brace, upgrade the sway bars. And have a much better car than a standard GT PP. But once you include the costs of parts, instillation (even if you install it yourself, your time isn't free).

So if you intend to do a lot of modifications yourself, absolutely skip the Performance Package, but for me, it was absolutely worth it.

I sort of considered the EB but I would need to drive them back to back and be saving a couple thousand to be happy with it. I grew up in a sports car household, old school thinking "always get the largest motor" and "never buy the automatic tranny" type of upbringing. I know that with software and a couple mods the EB should perform as well as the GT but I would have to enjoy the rest of the driving experience, exhaust sound, handling, etc. and save a decent chunk of money.

If I bought the GT I likely would have no regrets over the next couple years, and would quickly forget about how much more I'm paying a month or at the gas station.
But the thought of potentially being reminded every morning when I walk in the driveway that I could have had a V8 would make me die a little inside each time I started the car.

As someone who's been in that spot, it's 5.0 or go home. If you think you'll regret it NOW when you haven't even bought a car, just imagine when you actually have a 4 cycl and always wonder "what if?".

With the GT, you won't worry about that at all.

I bought a PP because:

The base rental i drove for a weekend felt too soft.

Gear and brake upgrades are a welcome upgrade on any car.

The cost for me to do springs/sway bars/radiator/gears/wheels/brakes etc would total beyond $10k and void warranty. Sure I could do everything aside from gears myself, but my time is just as valuable or more so than the cost of mechanic labor.

Too good of a deal to pass up, thanks ford!

You guys are going to really flip your lids when they put a turbo six in the gt eventually. That is until you start driving one and you realize technology moves forward and you can have your cake and eat it too (mpg and good hp).

sounds like a win/win except maybe the exhaust note, but as long as it makes up for it in performance im all for it.

To add to this: Even if you plan lots of mods, this can buy time to get the mods you want later on. If you want to stay within warranty. Personally, I will opt for a little performance while I wait.

I do not own yet, I have only tested them, I think the PP is much better feeling and grips the road better.

I'm well aware of the fact that tech is changing, I work in the silicon valley for one thing. This is why I bought a gt, to enjoy possibly one of the last v8's.

Numbers don't lie, forced induction is the way to go, but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy it or conform just yet. Also i grew up with sound as a huge part of driving, that will be the one slice of cake missing from any turbo six.

I wanted something different, that's why I bought the EB. I have a '93 Lightning for the V8 fix, plus the EB is a nice DD that gets stupid good fuel mileage. I saw 35-37 on the hwy yesterday, cruise set at 72. The car also feels more balanced than the GT's I test drove. Tune, cai, down pipe will put me at/above GT torque....plenty for jetting around town or having fun in the twisties. All in all, it was the wiser choice of the two cars, at least in my particular case.

Just to follow up on my post, I ended up getting a great deal on a PP model the dealer had been sitting on for 36 days. It really is a bargain for everything PP gets you for only $2500, the brakes and wheels/tires alone are worth the price and you get updated suspension.

3.5 EB in the F150 are not hitting their mpg targets. Turbos are hardly a solution. If turbos were so good why arent all cars turboed. Turbos are good on the govt test bench but not really in real world.

http://www.autoblog.com/2015/06/17/aaa-study-real-world-fuel-economy/

Owners of vehicles with diesel engines and manual transmissions appeared to be the biggest beneficiaries of discrepancies between estimated and actual fuel economy. Diesel owners reported 20-percent higher fuel economy than EPA ratings. Owners with cars equipped with manual transmissions enjoyed 17-percent higher real-world results.

Owners with turbocharged engines, on the other hand, were the biggest losers. Owners of turbocharged V6 engines reported fuel economy 9-percent lower than estimates, and owners of turbocharged four-cylinder engines reported fuel economy that was 4-percent lower than expected.

Thanks for following up! How much was it out the door?

I'm a sucker that paid basically sticker minus $500 rebate.

Who cares about EBs? The OP asked about the GT with and without the performance pack. Not what engine you prefer and why. OP I like the idea of getting a lot for not a lot so the PP makes sense to me.
