I am unable to find PP models with any substantial discounts but I am finding base GT manuals around in the $29k-30k range. So the $2400 price for the PP that's such a bargain is now an $8k+ price difference when comparing what I can get off the lot.

I'm not crazy about the wheels on the PP, and I'm concerned about the gearing on the PP when I'm on the highway as I travel frequently between Dallas and Shreveport/Texarkana.

I'm considering picking up one of the sub-$30k base/manual GTs and having the dealer install some FRP parts at delivery such as springs and maybe an exhaust, then pick up some wheels I like later.

Should I just tough it out another couple months until I can get a slightly used PP/manual GT in the low $30k range or is my logic sound?

And how bad of a hit does the highway cruising/mpg take with the diff on the PP cars?

Personally Id go with the premium over the PP. The interior is so much nicer on the premium. I also got the shaker sound system. Unless you're planning on a lot of track driving in your car. With a drive like that I'd consider an ecoboost also. I haven't installed an exhaust because I'm afraid of the headache inducing drone they sometimes cause.

You can join the Mustang Club of America for like $50 and have access to X plan pricing. It will bring you about the same discounts as you're seeing on the base models but the final price will depend upon options, of course.

There is plenty of detail on how to use X plan on this forum and the internet in general. Just do a search and you'll find some helpful information.

you can also find dealers that can beat xplan, just be willing to travel to get to them. I wouldn't have bought the car without PP personally. gotta have them big brembos!

PP owner here. Only option I paid for. Coming from a heavily molded BMW I wouldn't pay the premium for PP again. After market would have met my desires better than what's in the PP.

You can get the PP on a base GT netting a price in $32K range. Most dealers order the PP on the Premium GT, so you just gotta look to find a base GT w/ PP.

Thanks guys, good info here, and my mother gets me X plan pricing, she is a long time Ford person with a new one every two years, I'll likely use here dealer for max discounts if I buy new.

SpaceGhost, I am also a long time BMW guy, have had 6 or 7 E36 M3's over the years and an E30 with 95 M3 drivetrain swap. Being a long time modder of street cars I am also very picky about so called "performance" packages.

I know that for about $2,500 I can get some serious brakes that'll be better than the Brembo option.

I need to check out more models before pulling the trigger.

Good to know the EPA is based on the PP gears, thanks for that intel! Means that the standard GT should get a little better mpg's on the highway.

I sort of considered the EB but I would need to drive them back to back and be saving a couple thousand to be happy with it. I grew up in a sports car household, old school thinking "always get the largest motor" and "never buy the automatic tranny" type of upbringing. I know that with software and a couple mods the EB should perform as well as the GT but I would have to enjoy the rest of the driving experience, exhaust sound, handling, etc. and save a decent chunk of money.

If I bought the GT I likely would have no regrets over the next couple years, and would quickly forget about how much more I'm paying a month or at the gas station.
But the thought of potentially being reminded every morning when I walk in the driveway that I could have had a V8 would make me die a little inside each time I started the car.

no amount of savings is worth that feeling of regret

The GT Base is off to a good start when it comes to weight savings.

I don't get that feeling of regret. If it means that much to you then by all means get the v8. I wanted to keep the price in the low 30s. It was either v8 or eco with the premium interior and the shaker sound system. I have no plans right now other than keeping it bone stock and enjoying it. Buying a 30k+ sports car is definitely not a good financial decision. I figured I'd lessen the damage by getting a more than capable motor that gets 32 mpg highway. When I was babying the car for the first few hundred miles I was averaging high 20s mpg. Now I'm down to around 24 average and that's stomping it every time I get in it.

The .gov MPG on the GT is rated with the 3.73 rear end
That doesn't make sense why they would submit the PP's numbers for EPA approval, with every car company being required to hit an over all fuel rating of what? 54mpg? Why would they use the 3.73 geared PP over the 3.15 geared, more efficient automatic?
